Obituary:
Ernest Eugene Pittman, 73, of Orlando, was called home on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Born on January 11, 1953 in Tallahassee, Florida, Ernest lived his life out loud and on purpose, embodying an unapologetic faith and devotion as a father, mentor, public servant and educator.
Ernest graduated from Florida A&M University Develpomental Research School, class of 1972. He was a proud student athlete at FAMU High School, excelling in football. He furthered his education and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU).
Ernest was enlisted in the US Army Reserves until 1984. After his military service, he was later employed with the Lake County Department of Corrections for over 25 years.
Ernest was a caring, trustworthy, kind hearted and respectable man. Ernest believed in the power of community and never met a stranger. He taught students at Evans High School for over 10 years. He was as a devoted mentor who helped many students pursue higher education and navigate challenges. He is remembered for his kindness, encouragement, and positive influence on the students and colleagues he worked with.
Ernest was a faithful and active member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Orlando and served faithfully as an usher until his health began to decline. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to music and spending time with his family. He was a loving father, brother, servant and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal.
Ernest is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Fondrieta Pittman; 2 siblings, Bernice Cook, Martha Whiters; and a host of other family, colleagues, former students, and numerous friends who loved him dearly.
Ernest leaves behind a legacy of commitment, leadership, discipline, and compassion that will be cherished by all who knew him. His spirit and impact will forever resonate in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026 from 4-6 PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, 12:00 Noon at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 5200 W. South Street, Orlando with Pastor Lantz Mills, officiating, and Bishop Larry G. Mills, eulogist. Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.
