Obituary:

Sallie B. Jackson Turner, 95, of Winter Garden, was called home from labor to reward on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Sallie, the daughter of Willis and Addie Ricks Jackson, was born on April 16, 1928, in Eufaula, Alabama. Her grandmother Bell Ricks served as mid-wife. She was the third of seven (7) children, who fondly referred to her as, “sister.”

She was raised in a loving atmosphere with her sisters and brothers. Her parents instilled Christian values and work habits in all of them. At an early age, Sallie joined the Antioch Baptist Church in Eufaula.

While a young woman, she met Willie A. Turner, and after a brief courtship, they were united in Holy Matrimony on December 6, 1947. This union lasted 66 ½ years until his death on July 31, 2012. They were blessed with two sons, Willie C. and Jimmy.

The family moved to Winter Garden, Florida, in December 1952 and for the next 25 years, during the summer months she was a migrant worker employed by Martin Farms in Brockport, NY. During the winter months, she worked in Florida as a domestic helper.

Upon moving to Florida, she soon joined the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend F. E. Wilder. She was an active member of Choir #1 for over 30 plus years. She served in the Mission Ministry and was well known for her delicious cabbage (pot luck meals) and reciting, “Heaven’s Grocery Store,” at many church programs. Sallie was a Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.

Sallie leaves to cherish precious memories her two (2) sons: Willie C. Turner (Phillippia) Clermont, Florida; Jimmy L. Turner (Elizabeth) Winter Garden, Florida; three (3) grandchildren: Ricky Condry (Dorothy) Lawton, OK; James Turner, Winter Garden, Florida; William C. Turner (Shaquandra) Apopka, Florida; six (6) great-grands, five (5) great-great grands, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many sorrowing friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 5-7PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, 1:00 PM at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 915 E. Plant Street, Winter Garden with Reverend Dr. Clarence Taylor, officiating. Interment: Winter Garden Cemetery, Winter Garden.
