Obituary:

Jazelle B. Trotter, 69, of Summerfield, departed this life on Friday, March 20, 2020. Jazelle Bernadine Gaines was born on November 12, 1950 in Ocala, FL and was the only child to Manuel T. Gaines and Inez Williams McKeever. She was an army brat and lived a number of years in Germany before returning to Dunnellon, FL where she graduated from Crystal River High School in 1968. She then went on to attend Tuskegee University where she majored in economics. During this time, she was a campus beauty and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. After graduating, she married Fredrick D. Lee and was born her only child, Deanna.

Jazelle had a passion for travel. Early in her career she worked for Ford Motor Company which afforded her to travel and live in numerous places across the country. She eventually settled in Chicago, IL where she was very active in the United Methodist Church and the Xi Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She also established The Jazz Foundation, which helped to mentor young girls and women from various social backgrounds on the south side of Chicago. During this time, she met and married Gladstone Trotter in 2014. She was a known “social butterfly” and remained involved in many community events and activities. She will always be remembered for her jazzy style, grace, and compassion for others. Jazelle was a loving wife, mother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Gladstone Trotter, daughter, Dr. Deanna Graves, nephew, Kennith (Yasheakia) Brooks, niece, Nichole Brooks, and a host of cousins, grand nieces and nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 from 10:00 AM until services begin at 11:00 AM, St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, 718 NW 7th Street, Ocala with Rev. Thomas Poole, Jr., officiating.
