Obituary:
James Lovett Jr., 96, of Orlando departed this life on Monday, August 17, 2026. James was born on September 23, 1929 to Josephine and James Lovett Sr. who preceded him in death. Professionally, he was employed as a grader operator with the City of Orlando until retirement.
God lead him to dedicate his time and service to St. John Baptist Church of Orlando. He served faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, drove the church bus, and in any capacity needed . Aside from his church activities, Deacon Lovett enjoyed fishing, volunteering with Meals-On-Wheels, and spending time with his family. Deacon Lovett put God first in all that he did and he made sure his family knew who God was and how good God is. God knew he served his purpose and decided to call him home August 17th. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, servant leader and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James leaves to cherish his memories: loving children, Tom (Gloria) Lovett, Betty Pickens, Shirley (Al) Hill, Daniel (Mona) Lovett, Sharon (Clarence) Green, David Lovett, Linda (Wayne) McNelty, Michael (Shonda) Lovett; three brothers, Charlie Lovett, Melvin Lovett, Bennie Lovett; 14 loving grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, church family and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 4-6 PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, 10:00 AM at St. John Baptist Church, 30 Fred L. Maxwell Boulevard, Orlando with Rev. Dr. Rolous Frazier Jr., officiating. Interment: Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Mr .Lovette he lived a respectful lifestyle I’ve known him since childhood he would come by and settle and talk with my dad some they were both decons I believe he and my mom went to high school together and he took me as a god daughter he’s would always ask about me once he couldn’ttend church anyway I loved when he worked teach Sunday school I went by to see him about two months ago and am so glad I did family stay strong and you all did a amazing job of sharing your love for him may Gods grace bear with you always and remember her watching over you all always love you all and I continue to pray for you all
