Obituary:

Gertrude Cole Fayne, 89, of Eustis, departed this life on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Gertrude, affectionately known as Granny Fayne, was born on April 24, 1932 to the late Finis Cole Sr. and Eola Matthews Grisson Cole. Gertrude was the oldest of nine children. Sisters Verna Moore and Annie Doris Cole preceded her in death. Gertrude’s remaining siblings include Hazel Pruitt, Finis Cole Jr., Charles E. Cole, Lloyd Cole, Curtis P. Cole, Paul Cole and Nathaniel Grissom. Also included are a host of nephews, nieces as well as several great nephews and great nieces.

Gertrude was educated in the public schools in Macon, Mississippi and graduated high school in the Macon, Mississippi, Class of 51. She accepted Christ and was baptized at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church also in Macon, Mississippi.

Gertrude moved to St. Louis, Missouri shortly after high school where she met and married the late James June Fayne. From that union produced Andra Gail Fayne Johnson (Henry), Loyce Rochelle Fayne (preceded her in death in March 1988), Kennedy Ricardo Fayne and Derek Lanier Fayne. Gertrude also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Aaron Jamal Johnson, Jermaine Marquis Jenkins, DaShawn Adidas Nathaniel Fayne, Brandon Fayne, Karyssa Foutch Fegan, Katherine Larson, Blade Fayne and Quintin Fayne; and seven great grandchildren, Christopher A. Pogue, Leon Fayne, Derek M. Pogue, Lalea Jenkins, Mya Fegan, Jayoni Menelly Jenkins and Alivia Roz Jennings.

In 1976, Gertrude relocated to Alexandria, VA and became a faithful member of the Ark of Love Baptist Missionary Church under the leadership of Pastor Bernard Howard before becoming a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Alexandria Virginia.

Gertrude’s later years were spent in Eustis, Florida with son Derek. Due the pandemic Gertrude was not able to establish a church home in Eustis.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021, 10:00 AM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Institutional Church, 535 W. Washington Street, Orlando with Rev. Professor Quardricos B. Driskell, officiating. Interment: Florida National VA Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

    I never got a chance to meet my Grandmother as I see everyone who did called her “Granny”, I heard wonderful things about her, as I officially found out I am her grandson, if anyone could tell me more as my Father Kenneth “Ricky” Fayne tells me stories, I am trying to go back in my family history as far as I can have for our future family members, anyone interested you can you email me at “gtetarra@gmail.com thank you
