Obituary:

Edward “Eggie D.” Johnson, 75, of Orlando departed this life on Sunday, July 5, 2020. Edward was born to the late Mary Alice Johnson Slaughter on February 7, 1945. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Rev. LL Johnson, Sr. and Cornelia Johnson. He attended the public schools of Orange County and graduated from Jones High School, class of 1964. He was a proud Alumni of JHS. He loved sports, especially football, basketball and baseball, serving as a trainer for the JHS Football team. He received many awards from school, community and the city. He was loved by his peers and classmates.

He also had a lifelong passion of embalming and being apart of the funeral industry. He began this journey at the age of 13 under the mentorship of the late Mr. Willie J. Bruton, owner and operator of Bruton’s Funeral Home, Orlando. He also earned his training in retail management in clothing and appliances at Montgomery Ward Store. From the beginning, he was Mr. Bruton’s right hand man. Edward was a loyal employee, and made sure everyone knew their place and what was expected. He later became a proud member of Postell’s Mortuary staff. He was always a pleasant face to see on the weekends, once again, making sure employees and services were top notch. He was an asset to Postell’s staff and he will be greatly missed.

He joined his grandfather’s church, New Bethel AMEC, Orlando and attended services regularly. He served as an usher and more until his health began to fail. He has now joined his mother, beloved grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and others who preceded him in death. Rest well, Edward. Blessings be upon the entire Johnson and Slaughter family.

Edward is survived by his sons, Wyatt and Todd; daughter, Donna; aunt/sister, Rev. Susie Johnson Harris; sisters, Jackie Johnson Bain, Connie (Willie) Slaughter, Ferra Slaughter; brothers, Donald Slaughter, Alphonso (Cynthia) Slaughter; and a host of other family members and many friends.

A service of memory will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 3:30 PM at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando.
