Obituary:
Cleveland Alexander Johnson, 80, of Kissimmee, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, June 19, 2026. Cleveland, the 6th of 13 children, was born on April 30, 1946 to the late Delsada Ferguson and Jeremiah Johnson in Flint River, St. Mary, Jamaica. He did his schooling in St. Mary.
Cleveland’s father taught him the trade of building houses in Jamaica. From there, he moved to Kingston, Jamaica, where he continued his trade as a carpenter. He found his home church at Waltham Park Church of God and sang in the Youth Choir for many years. He left Jamaica and went to the Cayman Islands in 1969, where he worked building houses and a Barclays Bank branch.
Cleveland met and married the love of his life, Normalee, and they shared over 52 years of marriage. From this union, they had two girls, Marilyn and Victoria, and an adopted daughter, Ashley. He was proud of his girls and loved watching them grow up. Cleveland became a member of the Albany Church of God and continued through to East Flatbush. He reunited with some of his Christian brothers and sisters from Waltham Park Church. At East Flatbush, he was a Sunday School teacher, loved playing the drums, and worked on the church renovations. He continued working at various companies, including starting a business, Ranja Construction, with Deacon Holland Biggs. Cleveland went back into the construction field for many years with Sabaro Construction. He helped build Trump Plaza, various schools, and doctors’ offices. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He moved to Florida in 1991 when the Stock Market crashed, leaving his family behind to set up for them. He worked with William Construction on building schools in Poinciana, Sea World, and at the Orlando Airport. Cleveland returned to Brooklyn in 1994 and worked there until he retired and relocated to Florida.
Cleveland enjoyed cooking. His specialties included jerk pork, cows’ feet, tripe, escoviche fish, rice and peas, and baked breadfruit. He enjoyed giving all these away to his family and friends. In addition, he worked in his backyard planting sugar cane, yams, mangoes, bananas, sweetsop, and callaloo. When the season was in, he enjoyed giving all items to everyone possible. No one ever came to the house and left emptyhanded. He would pile up as much as he could to give away. Cleveland also made monthly donations to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. He was very kind-hearted, always willing to share. If he loved you, he would give you 100%. Cleveland was very stubborn, and his word was always law. When it came to the word of God, he was very serious.
Cleveland leaves to mourn his loving wife, Normalee; his two daughters, Marilyn and Victoria, and one adopted daughter, Ashley (spouse Chigozie); six grandchildren, Darren, Johanna, Phillip, Jaylen, Elijah and Andrew, one great grandson, Jahbari; his siblings Agatha (Daphne), Roy, Hazel (Birdie), Junie (Fay), Majorie (spouse Karl), Essie, and Annette; his sisters-in-law, Beverley and Jacqueline (spouse Brenton), and brother-in-law Roy (spouse Annette); godchildren Andrew (CJ) and Jason; two adopted grandchildren Chinaza and Chinedu; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, loved ones, and neighbors.
Cleveland was a dedicated man of faith and a hardworking provider. He lived a full life serving God and carrying out his commandments. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. He will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 9 AM until services begin at 10:00 AM, at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando with Bishop Arnold Fraser, officiating. Interment: Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando.
