Obituary:

Maria Ancille Parks, 82, of Orlando, departed this life on Sunday, July 19, 2020. Maria Ancille McLeod Parks was born on June 8, 1938 to Mr. and Mrs. McIvor and Amelia Francois McLeod in St. Patrick, Grenada. She completed her primary and secondary education in the St. Patrick school system. Maria became a Seventh – day Adventist Christian as a young girl and connected with the Seventh – day Adventist Church, Archibald Avenue, when the family relocated to St. Georges. At church she was a prominent member of the Dorcas Society, placing herself always as a woman of helpfulness.

Maria was an excellent cook. She was working as a cook when she met the handsome mechanic, Mosley Parks, the love of her life who became her lifetime partner. To this union two sons were born, Kelvin and Jude. When the family moved to the outskirts of Bellmont, Maria was the homemaker, family gardener, and she continued her cooking as an entrepreneur. She baked and sold pastries and other goodies to the school students beginning in 1967 until relocating to the USA.

Upon arrival to Orlando, Maria and the family joined Mt. Sinai SDA Church on Paramore Street under Pastor O. H. Paul. Sis. Maria continued to quietly worship and bless others with her kind demeanor and engaging smile until illness prevented her from attending.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, a hardworking employee, a devout and loyal Christian, she was also a loving neighbor and friend. Making a transition from the islands of the Caribbean was not an easy feat, but Sis. Maria was always available, sharing the wisdom of her experience and her resources, and ready to help migrating families make a good transition to the area. During retirement, even after she could not walk, Sis. Parks still insisted on baking and preparing her meals. She would receive guests, delight in the phone calls from her family and friends, especially nephews Paul and Derrick, and she would knit blankets and donate to the hospital for cancer patients.

Left to cherish her memory are: A loving and devoted son, Jude (Doris) Parks of Orlando; Siblings, Ralph, Milsford, Levi, Linette, Daniel, Susan, Wafphel, Haysma, Kenneth, Ronald, Irvin, Clevon, Ann, Lynthia, and Cathleen (along with sisters and brothers-in-law); 2 aunts; Grandchildren, Jude Parks, Jr. (Teria), Kelvin Parks, Jr., Shena Parks, Ciera Parks, Vernice Parks, Jude Parks, III; nephews, nieces, cousins and sorrowing friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 4-6PM at the church. A service of Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020, 11:00AM at Ball’s Temple First Born Church of the Living God, 1977 Bruton Boulevard, Orlando with Bishop Gary Cohen, Sr., officiating. Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.
