Obituary:

Velma Green, 85, of Orlando, FL departed this life on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Velma, a lifelong resident of Orlando, was born on December 1, 1937, to the late Norma Rutherford- Ready and Jack Green, Sr.  Velma was educated in Orange County Public Schools and graduated from historic Jones High School, class of 1955.  She also attended Friendship Junior College, Orangeburg, SC. 

 

Velma was born into and baptized at St. Mark AME Church, Orlando where she was a faithful member for most of her life.  Her maternal family, The Robinson’s and Rutherford’s were founding members of St. Mark.  At St. Mark, Velma served in several capacities of the church and later joined God is Able Outreach. Professionally, she was employed with the Walt Disney Company for 31 years.

 

Velma was a Christian woman of great wisdom. She dedicated her life to providing for her family and being of service to her community.  She instilled love, wisdom, and Christian values in all her children and family to follow.  In her spare time, she loved cooking,

shopping, sewing, traveling, decorating and entertaining family and friends. Velma was and will continue to be an inspiration to us all for living life in an exemplary way. She was a devoted mother, sister, mother of her church and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

 

Velma leaves to cherish her love and memories her son, Vincent (Arlene) Polite, Sr.; daughter, Coretta Polite; siblings, Loretha Williams, Norman (Wanda) Ready, Cynthia Rosier;  Jack Green, Jr.; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 4-6 PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, 1:00 PM at Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, 2525 W. Church Street, Orlando with Rev. Stovelleo Stovall, officiating. Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.
