Obituary:

Dorothy Victoria Williams Peterson, 102, of Orlando, departed this life on Friday, October 22, 2021. Dorothy, affectionately called ‘Dot’, was born on June 13, 1919 in Fairfield, Marion County, Florida to Brumbie and Susie Williams. Her siblings, Lee Olive, Peter, Benjamin, Brumbie, Tolar, and Patricia preceded her in death.

Her early years and primary education were in Marion County at Wetumpka School. However, after the separation of her parents she lived with her father on the family farm in Emathla where she graduated from Fessenden Academy, Martin, Florida. Dorothy was a daddy’s girl. She was always commenting that she loved her father.

After graduation school she and her elder sister Lee went off to Philadelphia to work and after a brief time she returned to Florida. It was here where she met the love of her life Milton L. Peterson. She spoke about how Milton followed the behavior of respectability in those days where no man would dare approach a lady he did not know. So, Milton had a mutual friend to introduce them, they got to know each other, were married and settled down in the Orlando area where they lived, worked, and remained devoted to each other until parted by his death some years ago.

She spent her active working years as an executive housekeeper who, after retiring, was not a person to sit around and do nothing. She grew roses and loved working in her yard in the Historic Parramore district of Orlando.

Even as a centenarian, she shared a treasure trove of life’s lessons and memories and maintained a youthful vibrancy and independence as recent as her visit with extended family in April of 2021. She was also a super fan of the Orlando Magic and just recently was invited to be a special courtside guest in the Arena. When her home was destroyed by a tree limb, she was welcomed into the home of Jeff and Josett Weibel and their three children, Joseph, Jillian and Winston. She grew to love this family and this family grew to love her also.

She was a devout Christian who had great faith. She always had a kind word, a helping hand, and a smile for every person she encountered each day. In her lifetime, she was a living example of beauty, elegance, patience and understanding. She never hesitated to tell you “not to stress over troubles and woes, just give them all to God.”

Rejoicing in her beautiful memory but mourning their loss are the members of her family: sisters, Elnora Mitchell, Reddick, FL, Thelma Williams, St. Augustine, FL; brothers, Ferdinand (Juanita) Williams of Quitman, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021, 10:00AM at Greenwood Cemetery, 1603 Greenwood Cemetery Street, Orlando.
