Obituary:

Overseer Martha Bennett Jefferson, 83, of Orlando, transitioned from labor to reward on Friday, May 14, 2021. Overseer Martha was born on November 10, 1937 in Childersburg, AL to the late Ida Bell and Ontario Williams.

Overseer Martha the Pastor of Progressive Freewill Holiness Church of God Branch #2 until 2001 when it was passed on to her daughter, Doris Bennett. During her tenure as pastor she began a care group called ‘The Help Club’. This group of women travelled from city to city preaching the word of God. One year as she was travelling through the state of Alabama, she was pulled over by a state trooper whom wanted to give her a ticket for speeding. He did not know that Pastor Bennett and Evangelist Grace Harris were Christians. He asked “where are you ladies headed?” Pastor Bennett replied, “to preach the gospel in Mobile”. He looked at them and said “well praise the Lord, I am a Christian too.” Instead of giving them a ticket, he gave them a handshake and said “I love the Lord too. Y’all slow it down”. This is just one of the many adventures of Overseer Martha Bennett.

She did not allow anything to separate her from the Lord. Overseer Martha put God first in all that she did and she made sure her family knew who God was and how good God is. God knew she served her purpose and decided to call her home May 14th. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She’s survived by her husband, Bobby Jefferson Sr.; children, Robert Roston, Pastor Doris Bennett, Larry Roston, Abigail (Joel, Sr.) Butts; sister, Mary Fluker; brothers, David (Betty) Williams, Prince Williams; 12 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, 1:00 PM at EBON Temple, Inc., 7001 Wallace Road, Orlando with Bishop Thomas S. Lee, Jr., officiating. Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.
