Obituary:

Derrick Arthur “DOC” Wilson, 68, of Orlando, FL, departed this life on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Derrick was born and raised in Miami, FL and educated in the Miami-Dade Public Schools. Derrick was a professional soldier for nearly 21 years. He travelled the globe four times-over with various medical assignments.

He received numerous US and Foreign Military Awards and Decorations for his brave & life saving service during multiple military combat tours. Derrick was celebrated honorably and fully retired as a Emergency-Medic Specialist (MEDDAC) from the US Army. He also retired from the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, in Washington , DC.

His educational scope included a BS degree in Health Care Management, Physiology and Sociology. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Derrick is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Berlynda Wilson; son, Errick (Latrell) Wilson; daughters, DaShawn Wilson, Monique Wilson-Hegilar; 2 brothers, Kevin (Slymphia) Wilson, Markell (Glynastina) Williams; 12 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 4-9PM at Royal Funeral Service Chapel. Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 2PM, also at Royal Funeral Service Chapel, 17475 NW 27th Avenue, Miami Gardens, FL.

Visitation will also take place on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 4-6PM at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of Life services will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021, 11:00AM at The Word of God Church, 1733 Mercy Drive, Orlando with Bishop Billy Newton, officiating. Interment: Florida National VA Cemetery, Bushnell with full military honors.
