Obituary:

Edafne May Rodgers-Bernard, 82, of Apopka, departed this life on October 20, 2019 in Winter Garden, Florida.
She was born in Guatemala, Central America, on December 29, 1936 to Nugent Rodgers and Emma Rodgers. Edafne and her parents returned to Jamaica West Indies, their native land, to live.

Edafne attended Troja elementary school, in Saint Catherine Parish, where she was a model student. She always wanted to become a nurse. Upon completing her formal education, she went on to Kingston Jubilee Hospital, where she became a midwife, and later to Kingston public hospital, where she became an RN. Edafne worked in different hospitals in Jamaica before migrating to the United States in 1976.

In the United States, she worked at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn New York, where she met and married Dennis Bernard. She eventually moved from New York to Orlando Florida in 1994. There she continued to work as a nurse until her retirement.

She is survived by her daughter Maxine (Glen) Mitchell; step sons, and four grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters, Olga Reddick, Yvonne Dailey, Patsy Lawrence, Peggy Rodgers and lots of nieces and nephews. Edafne was an outstanding member of the Pine Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church, including participating in the choir. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 5-7PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019, 2:00PM at Solid Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4955 Rose Avenue, Orlando with Pastor Samuel Dade, Jr., officiating. Interment: Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka, FL.
