Obituary:

Reverend Jimmie “Jim” Perry, 78, of Ocoee, transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Reverend Jim Perry was born on November 15, 1942 in Orlando, FL. He was the only child on Inez Perry. His grandfather, Rev. James A. Perry became his mentor and teacher in the Christian way of life.

Rev. Perry was educated in Orange County Public School System and graduated from Jones High School, class of 1961.

In 1954, at the age of eleven, he accepted the Lord and was baptized in Clear Lake by Rev. Browne of Friendship Baptist Church. In 1956 he moved his membership to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he was actively involved in BYTU, Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts. In 1980 he was appointed Chairman of Mt. Zion 100th Anniversary Celebration committee, member of the Florida Mass Choir, and also organized the Orlando component of the FMC.

In 1959 Reverend Perry became an active member of the NAACP Youth Council, where he met and was pictured with Dr. Martin L. King. He participated in many civil rights “sit-in” events. He participated in demonstrations that led to the end of segregation in Orlando, and the march on Tallahassee to end segregation in the State of Florida. Rev. Perry was a member of the Carl Langford Human Relations Commission which introduced the concept that African Americans could be elected to the City Council.

In 1981 he became a student under the word of God under the teaching of Rev. Earl Nobles. He rededicated his life to Christ and moved his membership to Pine Hills Community Church. As a member of Pine Hills Community Church, Reverend Perry served as the New Members Teacher, Sunday School teacher, member of the Adult Choir, and the Steering committee. He acknowledged his call to the ministry in June 1993.

In 1991, rev. Perry organized the Perry’s Family Reunion at Walt Disney World. He was a loving cousin, community advocate, and devoted servant who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Reverend Perry is survived by his aunt, Dica Presaley; a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021, 11:00 AM at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 412 E. Kennedy Boulevard, Eatonville with Pastor Willie C. Barnes, officiating.
