Obituary:

Beverlye Colson Neal, 74, of Winter Park, transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, December 13, 2021. Beverlye was born on July 10, 1947 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Clarice Colson and Julius Bradwell.

She served as active member of the Orange County Branch NAACP for many years. Most recently she continuously served on the Executive Board as a Vice-President for several years. Mrs. Neal was the Executive Director at Florida State Conference NAACP state office headquartered in Orlando, FL. And since her arrival locally she faithfully served the Orange County community as a civil rights advocate and consummate civic engagement worker. Dedicating her service to the Black community over the years she was actively involved as member, officer, and chairperson of many other area organizations including the National Congress of Black Women, Inc., Orange County Black Caucus, Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, and CLAJUL Professional Consultants, Inc. among several others.

Beverlye had a heart of gold and was extremely passionate about helping others and promoting equity, diversity and inclusion for persons from underrepresented and marginalized groups. She lived to serve. She was driven by an abiding commitment to justice, and her work was always grounded in love. She recognized and uplifted the humanity in everyone. Beverlye has made an everlasting positive impact on Florida’s social justice landscape. Beverlye will be sorely missed by all who knew her!

Precious memories of a life well lived will be cherished by her sons, Jimmy Neal, Odell Neal, Kenneth (Kenyatta) Neal; 5 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and numerous friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 4-6PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, 11:00 AM at New Covenant Baptist Church, 2210 S. Rio Grande Avenue, Orlando with Pastor Leroy Rose III, officiating. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville.

    On behalf of the National Congress of Black Women/Jacksonville Chapter, we are sadden to know that our sister and Regional Director will not be with us. Thank you, Ms. Neal, for your dedication and commitment to making life better for the Black community, women and families. You will truly be missed but not forgotten. May your family and friends who mourn your transition be comforted with God’s love, grace, mercy, and peace. Rest in Peace, our sister.

    Sending our sincere love and condolences to the Neal Family in the loss of your mother and love one. Beverly will be sorely missed,she touch so many lives and mentored my granddaughter, among her many outreach and affiliations she was a friend, neighbor and person who spent her life to make a difference in her community and injustice inspiring others that to register to vote but be an informed voter.

Beverlye represented NAACP for numerous years participating in our Adopt-A-Precinct program through various election cycles. May her family find comfort in knowing that the memory of her service will never be forgotten.

    Beverlye Neal was the past president of AFSCME COUNCIL 20. Local 2401 in Washington, DC where she worked for the Government of the District of Columbia in IV-D federally mandated Child Support divisions, Office of the Attorney General. Beverlye was bard hard worker and was well loved by her many union members and all those touched by her tireless good efforts. The world will never be the same, but heaven has an angel.
