Obituary:

Virginia Gail Thomas Sherman, 73, affectionately known as “Sis Sherman,” departed this life on Friday, February 6th surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 22, 1952 to the late Buddy and Elmerea Thomas as the fifth of seven children. She began her education in OCPS and later completed high school at Burlington Township, laying the foundation for a life defined by resilience, dedication, and faith.

Following graduation, Virginia relocated to Orlando, Florida, where she began building what would become her proudest accomplishment—her family. She was the devoted mother of eleven children, whom she lovingly referred to as her “Elite 11.” Her life was a testimony of sacrifice, strength, and unconditional love.

Virginia was a dedicated and hardworking woman. She faithfully served as an employee of Sherwin Williams for over 25 years, retiring in 2018. Never one to sit idle, she later became a bus monitor at West Oaks Academy in 2022, where she continued pouring into the lives of children until her retirement in May 2025.

Her faith in God was central to her life. Sis Sherman served as an active Youth Leader at 910 Livingston Street Church of God before joining New Bethel AME Church, where she worked diligently with the youth and in Sunday School. In her later years, she became a devoted member of Redeeming Light Center Church, serving as a Senior Mother and taking great pride in preparing communion for the saints on Communion Sundays. She loved the Lord and demonstrated her faith through service.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her siblings, Rev. Helen Thomas, Ruth Johnson, and Elliott Thomas; her children, Herbert Thomas, Patrick “PD” Thomas, Marian King, David Thomas, Angella Davis, Michael (Toccara) Thomas Sr., Clara Thomas, Kristopher Thomas, Barbara Sherman, and Jennifer Sherman; her godchildren, Willie Bryant III and Effie Mitchell; her grandchildren, Bruce, Courtney, Jaiyanna, Amiyah, Diamond, Michael, Malachi, Destiney, Sydnei, Jasmyn, Kaleb, Jai, Jaden, Jack V, JaDarius, Xzavier, Jamiah, Isaiah, Josiah, Amija, Michael Jr., Ja’Kyah, Khalil, DeAndre, Kinnadi, DeMarco, RaAliyah, Devin, Kian, Mason, and Lynnex; her great-grandchildren, Aloni, Kaleb Jr., Koah, and Ahmir; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and sorrowing friends.

Virginia will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her nurturing spirit, her strength as a mother, and her love for her church and community. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 4–6 PM at the mortuary. A Service of Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Redeeming Light Center Church, 109 Washington Ave, Eatonville, FL 32810, with Pastor Jermaine Reynolds, officiating. Interment will follow at Eatonville Memorial Gardens, Eatonville.
