Obituary:

Willie Pearl Chapman, 77, of Orlando, departed this life on Monday, July 29, 2019. Willie Pearl was born in Albany, Georgia on August 20, 1941 to the late Gertrude Walker and Robert Johnson. Pearl, as she was lovely known, was the seventh of nine children, which all but two have preceded her in death.

Pearl grew up in Albany, Georgia where she was educated and worked until she married James L. Lockett. After giving birth to two beautiful children, Rosa and Sammy Lockett, she relocated to Albany, New York to raise her children and be close to her family that she loved so much. While in New York, Pearl worked for the College of Saint Rose for many years and once her children were grown and began lives of their own, Pearl decided to move back to Georgia.

Pearl’s favorite hobby was making dolls, she loved creating them and would spend hours making fashionable clothing for them. She had a zest for life and a love for the Lord and often spoke of His goodness and grace. In May 2008 due to her declining health, Pearl moved to Orlando, Florida to be close to her daughter Rosa, who would help care for all of her needs. She lived out the remaining days of her life in church as much as possible. She was always joyous, praying, singing, smiling and never complained about anything. Pearl departed of this world quietly on the afternoon of July 29th 2019 at leaves behind a strong legacy of life and love in the hearts of all that knew her.

Pearl is survived by her two children, Rosa M. (Leroy) Howard of Orlando, FL, Sammy L. Lockett of Orlando, FL; two siblings, Mattie B. O’Neal of Oxon Hill, MD, Johnny Willis of Albany, NY. She was blessed with five grandchildren, and a host of other great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 4-7PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019, 11:00 AM at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 30 Fred L. Maxwell Boulevard, Orlando with Reverend Rollie Murray, Jr., officiating.
