Obituary:
William Lester Dowds, 68, of Orlando departed this life on Monday, March 18, 2024. William, affectionately known as ‘Tan’, was born in Chattahoochee, FL on August 9, 1955 to the late Nicey Griffin and Esau Campbell.
William was educated in the Public School system and graduated. He later enlisted in the US Navy and served his country honorably. He served as a navigator in the military for over 16 years. To those who knew William, he will be remembered as a caring, respectable person who was willing to lend a helping hand. He was always there to offer his support. Both family and friends would agree, William was someone you could trust and rely on. He was a loving father, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Dowds; son, Brooks Dowds; brothers, Samuel Dowds, Daniel (Sharlene) Smart, Russell (Rosita) Neal, Ricky (Carol) Neal; sister, Katie Crittenden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2:00 PM at Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church, 3510 Atwater Road, Chattahoochee with Rev. Matthew Bryant II, officiating. Interment: Oak Grove Church Cemetery, Chattahoochee.
