Obituary:
William Daniel Upson, 77, of Orlando, departed this life on Friday, October 29, 2021. William, a lifelong resident of Orlando, was born on December 6, 1943 to the late Lucinde H. and Simon Upson. William was educated in Orange County Public Schools, and graduated from Jones High School, class of 1961. After graduation, he furthered his education at Florida A&M University, where he participated as a member of the World Famous “Marching 100” and he earned his Master’s degree from Rollins College.
William was an active member of both Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and Mt. Olive AME Church, Orlando. Professionally, William served his community as an educator, and taught for over 24 years with OCPS. His gift for teaching impacted countless students. His devotion to the craft was driven by his enthusiasm for positively impacting students and working alongside other passionate educators. William was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, fraternity brother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
William is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Poitier Upson; son, William D. Upson; daughters, Rynette (Angel) Upson-Bush, Contessa (Michael) Upson-Bradwell; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 5-7PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, 11:00 AM at Mt. Olive AME Church, 2525 W. Church Street, Orlando with Rev. Dr. Mark Crutcher, officiating. Interment: Orlando Memorial Gardens, Apopka.
