Obituary:

Vernis Ellis, 95, of Ocoee, departed this life on Friday, January 26, 2024. Vernis was the 1st of 5 girls born to Hattie Mae Callaway on May 7, 1928 in Colquitt, GA. She was loving and won the hearts of everyone as she provided a place for many of them to stay.

Vernis dedicated her life to providing for her family. She instilled love, wisdom, and Christian values for all her family to follow. She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Ms. Vernis loved and cherish her daughter, Lisa House; sons, Derrick Martin and Ronald Deans; sister, Dorothy Moore-Hixson; niece, Linda Jenkins; nephew, Walter Thurman, Jr.; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 4-6 PM mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, 1:00 PM at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando. Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.
