Obituary:
Vera Jean (“Jean”) Alston, 82 of Orlando, FL departed this life on Saturday, May 31, 2025. Vera Jean was born on October 7, 1942 in Sumter, SC, the eldest child of Marie and Owen Alonzo. Eventually, the family settled in New York City, where Jean attended and graduated from Julia Richmond High School in Manhattan. Soon after graduation, Jean met and married Oscar Alston. Together, they had three beautiful children – Randy, Darlene, and Gary. After losing her beloved mother Marie unexpectedly when she was only 20 years old, Jean lovingly stepped in to help raise her five younger siblings – Joyce, Alyce, Alfred, Adele, and Owen. After her marriage to Oscar ended, Jean was blessed to find her beloved, husband, Alexander (“Al”) Allen, and they have enjoyed a loving, devoted life together. Jean worked as an executive assistant throughout her life. After the untimely loss of two children, Jean and Al relocated from New York City to Orlando, FL, where she resided until her death. In Orlando, Jean found peace and built a career in government as a highly respected Executive Assistant to senior executive. In her professional life, Jean she was renown and respected for her diligence and work ethic. Even after retiring, Jean continued to contribute to and be involved in her Orlando community. Jean was a kind, caring, and beloved mother, grandmother, big sister, aunt and stepmother.
Jean was preceded in death by her children, Randy, Darlene, and Gary; and her siblings, Adele, Owen, and Alfred.
She is survived by her loving husband Alexander Allen; sisters, Joyce and Alyce; grandchildren, Amanda, Gary, and Isaiah; great grandchildren, Preston, Imani, Nakaia, and Noah; nieces, Roxanne, Marie, Ahsaki, and Danielle; nephews, Alfred Jr., Alex, and Akil; stepchildren, Lisa, Sharon, Corey and Shirley; and loving in-laws, family, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, 12:00 Noon at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando with Pastor Arnold Porter, officiating.
