Obituary:

Vera J. Wilborn, 86, of Orlando, departed this life on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Vera, affectionately known as Giz or Gizmo by her family and friends, was born on June 20, 1936 in Cordele, Georgia and was the third child of Annie Mae Daniels and John Daniels. Vera attended Georgia Public Schools when she wasn’t helping her family in the fields. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Hatley, Georgia in her youth. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. Vera moved to Florida in the 1950s. She was employed as a domestic housekeeper, and traveled on the city transit system, working all over Orlando. She was also employed at Eccleston Elementary School for a short time.

Vera met and married Robert Wilborn, and to this union, two children were born. Over the years she joined Mt. Herman Baptist Church in Orlando, where she was a faithful member. She later joined Community Baptist Church under the Rev. Dr. Henry McKinnon. She remained at Community Baptist Church until her health declined.

She enjoyed getting dressed up for church in her fancy suits and hats. In her early years at Community Baptist Church, she sang in the choir and enjoyed her weekly fellowships with the members. Vera was well known for her green thumb. She did wonders with her plants and flowers, and they responded by blooming yearly for her. She was known for her cooking and cakes she baked. Often times people will stop by for a visit but really for a meal. She was very good at sewing and crafting. She believed in keeping a clean home and had a strict cleaning schedule. She liked to tell stories of how things were when she was growing up, comparing it to now. She loved her children and grandchildren and was always happy when they visited. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memories 3 children, Carl (Linda) Johnson, Robert Wilborn Jr, and Sheila (Charles) Wilborn-Hall; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, 1:00 PM at Malone Memorial COGIC, 401 S. Ivey Lane, Orlando with Minister Patrick Thomas, officiating. Interment: Eatonville Memorial Gardens, Eatonville.
