Obituary:

Simon Ellis McRae, 75, of Ocoee, departed this life on Monday, February 12, 2024. Simon was born on January 20, 1949 in Alamo, Georgia to the late Mozell and Duncan McRae. Simon enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1995. During his military service, he earned a National Defense Service Medal, in addition to a Navy Achievement Medal.

Simon was a dedicated family man. He was an active and faithful member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was also active with the RAFMAN Club, Orlando, American Legion, AMVETS and VFW. Aside from his military and civic involvement, Simon enjoyed gardening, spending time with his beloved grandchildren, and attending family gatherings. He instilled love, wisdom, and Christian values for all of his children and family to follow. Simon was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Simon is survived by his loving wife, Orita McRae; 5 children, Kevin (Kim) McRae, Lashon (Earl) McFayden, Angie (John) Thomas, Chiquita (Jermaine) Waller, Delores Mitchell, Angela Walter; brother, Clyde McRae; sisters, Margie Reese, Florine Brantley, Shirley (Joseph) Trobridge; 14 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 5-7PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 915 E. Plant Street, Winter Garden with Reverend Dr. Clarence Taylor, officiating. Interment: Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL with full military honors.

    God bless you uncle Simon much love it was short on seeing you but I got to see u before you left this earth was a blessing and may the family continue bless us with your spirit as you attend the after life.

    To my family it is with warm hearts that we write to say that Uncle Simon will be truly missed. It was so good seeing him a few weeks ago the laughter that we had the love that we shared will continue to pray for strength for our family during this most difficult time.     It was a privilege to work with Simon At Stericycle for so many years. He Inspired Us All Here In Jacksonville To Be Great And He Will Truly Be Missed And Always In My Heart .So Sorry for your loss I’m praying for your family.
