Obituary:

Sadie Rhymer, 68, of Orlando, departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 6, 2023. Our beloved Sadie was born to Ricardo Peterson & Genoveva Encarnacion in Manhattan, New York on March 22, 1955. She stayed in New York for a short time until she moved to the sunny island of Puerto Rico with her family. She later moved to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI when she was 5 years old. She attended Lochart Elementary School where she met the love of her life Joseph “Ohanio” Rhymer. She loved to tell the story about how he pulled her hair when he was sitting behind her in the classroom and how she only liked him because she felt sorry for him. Tell that to everyone around her as they were married for over 45 years. Sadie went on and attended along with Ohanio, Wayne Aspinal Junior High School and finally graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School Class of 1974, once again with the love of her life Ohanio. Ohanio went away to the army that year and promised to come back and take her to the states and made good on his promise on May 20, 1978, when they were married in St. Thomas.

Sadie and Ohanio moved to Anchorage Alaska and later to Seattle Washington and finally Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas where they stayed for a while and had their first and only daughter Lotoya “Toya”. Sadie wanted Toya so badly & continued to tell the story of how Toya was a 10-pound baby that looked like a pig but none the less she loved her more than anything in this world. She went on to then have her only other child, a son Joseph Rhymer II and unfortunately even though she wanted more children, she was unable to, due to possible health issues. Sadie gave her children everything they could possibly want and loved them with everything in her. She owned and ran a daycare in Kansas and worked as a CNA, and a teacher. Kansas is where a lot of her family and friends ended up migrating to and staying. Sadie and her family relocated to Ft. Hood, Texas in the 80’s where Sadie then worked at a Fairway Middle School as a School Nurse where she combined her love of medical with her love of art. She graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1990. Every year she is known for making her children as well as her nieces and nephews her famous homemade cakes throwing her artistic “Sadie” touch on it, every birthday outdoing the last one. Every year all of her sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews would either come down or they would make sure to go back to Kansas or plan some trip to Disney or away to make sure they traveled the world. Family was everything to Sadie.

In 1994, Ohanio retired and moved Sadie and the family to Orlando permanently, to be closer to St. Thomas so they could travel there easier and to get away from the cold weather. Sadie continued her work as a Nurse Tech at Health Central Hospital where she worked for over 15 years and retired. She continued to paint throughout the years as I am sure there are many that have her beautiful art pieces hanging somewhere in their house. For everyone that knew Sadie they knew that she would give her last to anyone and would let anyone and has let anyone stay with her and Ohanio in their house to help anyone in need. However, everyone knows the love she had for Ohanio and the love she had for her family, children and grandchildren. In fact, in her final months Toya had moved her and Ohanio in so she could be close to her grandchildren, and they could care for her and try to nurse her back to strength. On the night before her transition Sadie attended a cheer performance for her granddaughter as she never missed a performance she came back home and was not feeling well she went into the hospital and surrounded by her long-time husband Ohanio and her daughter, son, son-in-law and grandchildren she took her last breath at 7:05AM.

The legacy of Sadie lives on through those whom she loved: the love of her life since elementary school, Joseph Ohanio Rhymer; her daughter, Lotoya Williams & her husband, Michael Williams; her son, Joseph Ohanio Rhymer II; her sisters, Iris Wesselholf, Mary Ann Saldana; her brothers, Carl Petersen, Alphonso Petersen & his wife, Sadie Petersen; her many nieces and nephews: that she took care of through the years and her many grandchildren: and even 1st recent great grandchild: that she was able to see. Sadie also had a very close friends, Ms. Delia Parks and Mrs. Dorcas Russell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, 1:00 PM at Redeeming Light Center Church, 109 Washington Avenue, Orlando with Bishop John I. Cline, officiating.
