Obituary:

Reverend Ollie Giles Demps, of Orlando, transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Rev. Demps was born on October 12, 1943 in Live Oak, Florida to the late Minnie and Archie Giles Sr. She later met and married Thomas Demps, and they began their ministry of serving God and people until his demise in 2007. She was a devoted wife and mother.

Reverend Demps was called to the ministry and ordained as an local Elder of the African Methodist Epsicopal Church, where she served for over 30 years. Her invaluable lessons touched the lives of many members and visitors of Trinity AME, Orlando. The motto Rev. Demps carried with her, “if I can help somebody as I pass this way, then my living shall not be in vain” became a major tool she used to guide countless souls to the ever- open door of Christ. Gaining the love and respect from many, Rev. Demps’ light became a strong, gravitational pillar for every community she served. After retirement from active pastoring, she became a member of Greater St. Paul AMEC, Orlando where she continued to serve God and people in what ever capacity was needed.

Rev. Demps breathed her last breath and put on her new robe of glory on July 8th. Her ministry and legacy will live on in the hearts of her beloved children, Sharlene (Sanchez) Clark, Tyrone Demps; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Elro Carr, Isamae Giles; brothers, Alvin Giles and Archie Giles; the entire Demps family, colleagues, and numerous friends. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 5-7PM at Greater St. Paul AME Church, 1040 S. Parramore Avenue, Orlando. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 11:00 AM at St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1968 Bruton Boulevard, Orlando with Pastor Joseph Brooks, eulogist. Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando.
