Obituary:

Patricia Gail Walker, 71, of Melbourne departed this life on Sunday, February 13, 2022. Gail, as she was affectionately called, was born on March 16, 1950 to the late Constance F. and Perry Hughes, Jr. in Jacksonville, Florida.

She relocated to Melbourne, FL with her parents in 1954. Gail attended Stone School from kindergarten through 11th grade. She played volleyball and the French horn in the marching band. She shared many stories about her years at Stone and continued to have long friendships formed and nurtured there. Due to integration, Gail attended her senior year in high school at Melbourne High School and graduated in 1968.

Gail wanted to attend FAMU following in her parent’s footsteps. There she pledged Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics and Chemistry in 1976.

In 1977, Gail took a job in Antigua, where she met the love of her life, Rick Walker. Gail immersed into the culture and made many friendships there as well. Gail later entered a career in teaching in Brevard County Public Schools. She taught at Rockledge High school and Palm Bay High School, retiring in 2002.

Gail loved to be around family and friends, telling old stories and sharing laughs. She was always up for a good time, whether it was out for a good meal, a “debate” with light hearted trash talks, or a football game. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memories with a devoted husband of 44 years, Marlon R. Walker; two loving daughters, Breia and Brittany Walker; two sisters, Beverly (Rev. Henry) Postell, and Perrilyn (Alonzo) Beachum; granddaughter, Aleena; mother-in-law, Marjorie Emard; aunts, Anita Ford, Narcissus Jackson; nieces, Sherrie and Deirdre Postell, Araina Beachum, Shai Chatman; nephew, Julian Beachum; lifelong friends, Sandra Pelham, Jessie Buggs, Linda Butler, Gussie Black, Cecilia Knight; and a host of other relatives, former colleagues, students, classmates and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 5-7PM at Bruce Buggs Funeral Home, 2701 S. Harbor City Boulevard, Melbourne. A service of celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 2295 Dr. Harvey Riley Street, Palm Bay with Pastor Quintin P. Woods, Sr., officiating. Interment: Grant Street Cemetery, Melbourne.

Gail’s favorite color was lavender or any shade of purple, african prints or bright/springs colors, so those who can, please wear something to that effect as we celebrate the life our Queen.

Rip my friend. I remember our fun times in Antigua. You, Ricky Aaron and me. We will see each other again some day. Love you

Meeting Gail on my first trip to Antigua in 1977 was a joy. Being the only female on a trip with a group of male colleagues made me feel lonely until I met Gail in the chow hall. We had so much fun. I am glad I got to tell her how good she made me feel during those times. Rest in Heaven Friend. Love Gloria

“Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4) I’ll never forget when I first met Gail when we were employed at RCA. She would make you laugh before the conversation was over. She was dedicated to her family even through sickness. She leaves a void that cannot be filled because her talents, skills, and friendship made her special. Although our hearts may be sad, we do know that she is now peacefully at rest. To the family, may the joy of the Lord be your strength.
