Obituary:

Myra E. Owens-Tillmon, 68 of Lakeland, Florida departed this life on Saturday, September 10, 2022. Myra was born to LaVonne and Robert L. Owens on May 14, 1954 in Bartow, Florida. She was educated in Polk County Public Schools and graduated from Kathleen Sr. High School, class of 1972. She later attended Florida A&M University, Tallahassee. She was employed with Polk County Opportunity Council, Tiny Tots Day Care. Cleveland Court Elementary School, and the State of Florida Children and Family Services.

Myra was a very kind, generous, loving woman with a heart of gold. She dedicated her life to her raising and caring for her beloved family. She was an active member of New Bethel AME Church, Lakeland. She was a member of several ministries such as Lily White, Sarah Allen Missionary Society, Youth Usher Coordinator, Junior Usher Coordinator, Hospitality Committee, and former Trustee Committee Member. She instilled love, wisdom, and Christian values for all her family to follow. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Stars. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory and to continue her legacy: her loving and devoted daughters, Gia N. Island (Micheal), Myia L. Cox, Natasha Tillion; son, Don X. Tillion Jr.; sisters, Martha Hodge (Curtis),Gwen Edwards, Sharon K. Johnson (Jerome); brothers, Reginald L. Owens, Raynard Owens (Marion), Laynard Owens; grandchildren, Demeteron Miller, Aalayeha Miller, Carlaysia Underwood, Jesse Henderson Jr., Corey Swanson Jr., Micaelah’ Island; God-daughter; Tashona Sconiers; God-Mother, Polly D. Spears; God-Sisters, Lisa Spears and Monica; Special Cousins, Concheral Joyner, Marva Jenkins; Special Friends, Peggie King, Deborah Cowans, Kharon Capper, Donna Starks, and Arlene Bronson; and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and loving friends

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 from 5-7PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, 11:00AM at New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 2122 Martin L. King Avenue, Lakeland with Pastor Eddie Lake, officiating. Interment: Florida National VA Cemetery, Bushnell.

    There are so many wonderful memories of Myra and my family we will always remember with our children doing what God has commanded us to do as parents. It takes a village and Myra was part of it.
