Obituary:
Missionary Evelyn D. Reddick, 79, of Orlando, sadly went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 1, 2021. Missionary Evelyn was affectionately known as “Peggy”, “Aunt Peggy” and even “Eveleski” to family and friends.
Born in Orlando, Florida on July 12, 1942 to Charlie and Edna Deboles, she was one of 10 siblings and the oldest daughter, a role she relished. Peggy attended Orlando Public Schools finishing at Jones High School and went on to attend nursing school, eventually becoming a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Peggy married Lorenzo Reddick, Sr. in 1962 and from that union had four children, “Scooter” (Lorenzo Jr,) “Cindy” (Cynthia), “Penny” (Kadyra) and “BeBe” (Maria), were born
Evelyn had several successful careers during her life. She worked at the post office for a short period before joining the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). She went on to obtain a real estate brokers license then opened her own Real Estate practice. She next formed a janitorial firm, National Management Building Maintenance Company and won several contracts including Ardaman and Associates and truck washing contract with Pepsi. She expanded her janitorial company to include federal contracts and was responsible for cleaning several military bases throughout Florida, eventually winning a multi-year contract for Eglin Airforce Base. Evelyn was first African American women to be awarded a shelf stocking contract for all the naval bases in Florida.
Of the things she loved, being “Mama” and “Grandma” were her favorites! She was a fixture in the lives of her children and there was no greater joy than being with her children and her grandbabies. Always a class act and a “dresser”, Sister Reddick would attend the kid’s games and all her friends would say, “Girl your Mama be dressing”. If they were ever in a bind, they knew they could call “Mama” and she would do everything she could to help, one time even reviving her nursing license and moving to the DC area to be in the area to assist. It was nothing for her to hop a flight for a birthday party or to join her kids and grandkids on vacation. One of her favorite trips was watching tennis live at the US Open in Flushing Meadows NY. Mama relished trying new things and adventures with her grandkids, even once touring Chicago on a Segway. One of her funnier moments was when she first tried sushi with her grandkids and loaded her sushi with wasabi not knowing of its intense heat. Her reaction was priceless!!
Missionary Reddick loved the Church of God in Christ with her whole heart and loved being a part of the COGIC family. Early in the journey with the Church, someone gave her the nickname “Mother COGIC” which she loved due to her overwhelming enthusiasm for the COGIC church. Missionary Reddick worked in various areas of the Church. She was an Evangelist and the Superintendent of the Sunday school for the Western Florida Jurisdiction, Number 2. In these roles, she was a fierce prayer warrior, a role model and relished spreading the gospel to everyone she encountered. Many young women relied on the counsel of Mother Reddick to navigate a life of holiness often becoming daughters in spirit. Peggy, Aunt Peggy, Eveleski, Missionary Reddick was truly a wonderful and regal soul. Her presence, her grace and her love will forever be missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by four children: Lorenzo V. Reddick, Jr., Cynthia A.R. Martin, Kadyra Reddick, Maria D. Reddick; three grandchildren, Nidaal Abdullah, Christopher Martin and Contessa Martin; brothers, Charles DeBoles, Sr., Donald DeBoles (Nita); sisters, Doris J. Riddle (William), Gwendolyn Burton; daughter in love, Rhonda N. Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 5-7PM at the church. A service of Celebration will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, 11:00 AM at Malone Memorial Church of God in Christ, 401 S. Ivey Lane, Orlando with Superintendent T.I. Wootson, officiating.
