Obituary:

Millicent Hyacinth Cummings, 76, of Orlando, FL departed this life on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Millicent, affectionately known as “Millie”, was born on December 6, 1944 in Duckenfield, St. Thomas, Jamaica, WI to the late Rozelda Thomas and Alfred Green.

In 1971, Millie and her beloved husband, Uken aka “Bing” migrated from Canada to the United States. Four children were brought forth from this union, O’Neil, Carl, Stephanie and Jason. Professionally, she was employed as a certified nurses assistant at Wayne’s Nursing Home in Brooklyn, NY for 31 years. She retired and relocated to Orlando, Florida in 2008 and became a member of Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Millicent was a woman of great wisdom. She was very persistent, she didn’t compromise her dedication to her church and faith. Her number one specialty was baking sweet potato pudding and cooking. Everyone loved her cooking. Millie walked tall among great men and women, but she never lost her dignity and humanity. She loved her family and showed love to everyone. Millie was and will continue to be an inspiration to us all for living life in an exemplary way. Her memories will live on in our hearts.

She leaves to cherish her love and memories to her devoted husband of 53 years, Uken Cummings; 3 sons, O’Neil (Kelly) Cummings, Carl (Stacy) Cummings, Jason (Kenisha) Cummings; daughter, Stephanie Thompson; sisters, Pearline, Monica, Veronica, Ann Marie, and Polly; brothers, Douglas, Roy Green, Roy Sutherland, Leonard, Barry, Darian; sister-in-law, Elsa Dixon; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 4-6 PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021, 11:00 AM at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando. Interment: Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando.

    Rest on Ms. Millie, God is coming soon when the dead in Christ will rise. Remember your baking when I came visiting Orlando and you cheerful spirit.
