Obituary:
Mathson Emilus, 48, of Orlando departed this life on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Mathson was born on November 28, 1972, in Saint Marc, Haiti, to Bernadette Charles and Joseph Emilus. He was the firstborn of four siblings. He was affectionately known as “Matt.” Matt graduated from Elizabeth High School.
Mathson cannot be described with just one word; he was a devoted father to his three children, Shawn, Keith, and Jayleen. He was a loving father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. Matt became whoever you needed him to be for you. He had a smile that brightens the room whenever he entered. Matt always offered advice to the younger generation and grabbed a drink with the older generation. He never wanted people to make the same mistakes that he made; that is why he was an open book. Matt made friends wherever he went; he was always so welcoming.
Matt’s death took everyone by shock. Never did we think it would be you laying in front of us and having your biography read. You are in the arms of the Lord now; all of your sufferings are over. We will forever cherish the endless memories you left with us. He will be deeply be missed by all who knew him but never forgotten.
Mathson leaves his precious memories with his children, Shawn, Keith, and Jayleen; father, Joseph Emilus; mother, Bernadette Charles; siblings, Beatrice, Rockland, and Dudley. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021, 10:00 AM at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando, Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.

I send my deepest sympathies to the family, our family. The Jean family and Emilus family were always affectionately known as cousins as our two sets of parents grew up together and kept a close bond throughout the years. I remember Matt. I remember his smile. I remember his laugh. I remember him taking any situation and making it a bit lighter with that contagious laugh. I have not heard it in awhile, now more than anything I wish I could hear it again. I know those who had the pleasure of hearing that infectious laugh in his last days will remember him for just that because it made a difference in their lives. To Matthieu, Bernadette, Beatrice, Rocky and Dudley, their spouses and Keith, Shawn and Jayleen, I send my love and pray that Jehovah God will give you the strength that surpasses the normal to process and deal with the tragic loss of your beloved son, brother and father, Matt. He will be missed. He will be remembered. My deepest Sympathies again.
