Obituary:
Joseph N. “Joe” Malcolm, 82, of Orlando, departed this life on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Joe was born on April 15, 1939 in Kingston, Jamaica, WI to Joseph Kent and Nora Winifred Malcolm. As a young man, Joe developed a love for the sea. He became a crew member on the Jamaican Producer, a banana ship hauling produce between the U.K. and Jamaica. Though his dream to captain a ship didn’t pan out, it kick started his lifelong love of boating.
He fell in love with Joy Elaine Walker- they married and raised three sons, Michael, Maurice, and Kirk. In 1969, the family migrated to the United States, first living in New York City and later settling in Miami, FL. A true entrepreneur, he honed his talents in the trucking industry and long with his sons, built J.N. Malcolm & Sons, Excavating Inc. into one of the largest minority owned trucking companies in the state of Florida. Joe never lost his roots. He loved Jamaica and made frequent visits to the island, especially after retirement. Locally, there is not a Jamaican restaurant that didn’t fell like “Mr. Malcolm” was their best customer.
With his sharp wit and undeniable charm, Joe enjoyed conversation and gatherings with his family. He was often the life of the party, with an undeniable charisma that made people feel comfortable. His laugh which could be felt wholeheartedly will be greatly missed.
Joseph is survived by his sons, Michael (Christine) Malcolm, Maurice (Verona) Malcolm, Kirk (Crystal) Malcolm; brother, Russell (Thora) Malcolm; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 5-7PM at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel. A private service of memory will be held at a later date and time.
