Obituary:
In the early 90’s he moved to the U.S. and lived here ever since. He was married and in 1999 had a son, also named Jonathan, who was born prematurely and who he stayed at home with to help care for during his first year of life. His nieces and nephews always looked forward to visiting their uncle, aunt and cousin whenever vacationing in Florida.
In 2000, Jonathan was adopted again. This time, by his Southwest Airlines family where he worked for more than 23 years as a ramp agent. He planned his daily routine around work, making sure to get plenty of sleep before early morning shifts and by laying out a pressed uniform on the dresser to make sure to be on time for work. As much as he took his work seriously and trusted his co-workers, he never overcame his intense dislike of flying and he much preferred cruising the Caribbean for vacation.
He had a strong preference for warm weather and while he had no plans of ever leaving Florida, he remained a loyal fan of his cold-weather Hoosiers, Pacers and Colts teams. He also kept a list of important dates in his nightstand and was sure to call family on every holiday and birthday. Some of the happiest times in his life were spent on wheels (bike, skateboard, motorcycle), playing sports (soccer, basketball), and spending time with his pets. Dogs have always held a special place in his heart and there probably wasn’t a time when he didn’t have a loyal canine companion, including 14 year-old Milo, who was by his side until the end. He also had fond childhood memories of his yearly trips to the sandy dunes of the Araguaia River in central Brazil.
Jonathan is survived by his son; mother; siblings, Timothy (Flávia) Burrell, Amy Burrell, Juliana Burrell; nieces, Camilla (Chris) White, Amanda (Ethan) Gomes, Lena and Isla Burrell Weber, Natasha and Nicole Burrell Ribeiro; nephews, Victor (Jennifer) Burrell, Joseph and Nicholas Burrell Ermey; aunt, Dawn Burrell; uncle, Jack McDavid; brother-in-law Russ Clinton; and former spouses, Avis Burrell and Dorothy Burrell.
He is preceded in death by his father, sister Jennifer Burrell, grandparents Eugene Schiappacasse, Ralph and Ann (Street) Hampton, Roy and Virginia (White) Burrell, and uncles Timothy Hampton and Ivan Burrell. He was baptized into Christ by his late father.
