Obituary:
Joann Michelle Core, 88, of Orlando, departed this life on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Joann Michelle Core was born on May 6, 1936, in Frederick, Maryland to the late Benjamin Franklin Sr. and Janis Scott Franklin.
She moved to Orlando in 1971 from Philadelphia, PA with her husband Michael as she called him, along with their 1-year-old baby girl Topper and their 4-year-old son Shawn. She decided that wherever her husband would go, she would follow, and they landed in Orlando and loved it.
Mother Joann M. Core was a member of EL Bethel Temple at Orlando, Inc. for over 40 years. “Mother” Core, as she was affectionately called, loved teaching children. After her employment at Peter Pan Daycare for 15 years, she applied for a teaching position at El Bethel Christian Academy in 1987 and was placed as Supervisor of the first-grade class. Over the years, numerous students passed through her classroom. She was meticulous in all she did and expected a standard of excellence from all her students. She taught summer school yearly and worked diligently as an Educational Specialist, helping students with learning disabilities to read and write. Even after retirement, Mother Core continued to tutor students in her home.
She fellowshipped with Minister Mary Fields for several years before becoming a member of EL Bethel Temple at Orlando. She also served as the assistant principal under the leadership of Mr. Clyde Roberson and Mrs. Carolyn Thomas. Mother J. Michelle Core was consecrated to the office of “Mother” by Bishop Archie Williams. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Matthew Core and son Shawn Core. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Michelle Alisa “Topper” Core, Lawanna Core Hardges (Fiancé, George A. Dunbar); sister, Deborah Lassiter; brother, Larry Franklin; grandsons, Jason Hardges (Naoko), Jonathan Hardges Sr.; 5 great grandchildren, Dymia, Jonathan Jr., Demorea, Jaela, Jalari; in-laws, Margaret Franklin, Inez Core, Linda Berry, Annie Core; 2 God daughters, Camille Dawson and Sonya Robinson; first friend in Orlando, Loretta Terry; she was a loving aunt to Jeff and Cynthia Hatcher; Topper’s God mother, Willie Mae Morris; her girl, whenever she called she was there, Yvonne Garwood; Lady Angela Morris and Elder Carolyn P. Thomas, her encouraging sisters-in-the-Lord; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, god children, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 4-6PM at Postell’s Mortuary, 811 N Powers Dr, Orlando. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, 11:00 AM at El Bethel Temple of Jesus, 3000 Bruton Boulevard, Orlando with Elder Alfred Grider, officiating. Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.

I met Michelle in Philadelphia and was only in her company two or three times, but her pleasant, sunny disposition and beautiful smile made me feel
that I had made a new friend. In, I believe, 1985 or ’86, I visited her in her home in Orlando while on a trip to Disney World.. She received my family and me with the same grace and kindness, and made our evening pleasant. I pray that she rests in heavenly peace. 🙏🏼
Joann:
For God has guided your steps through thick and thin everyday throughout your 88 years of service on this earth. Your bright smile and wonderful personality lifted the spirits of everyone who came in contact with you. You will be sorely missed by all of us who were blessed to know you. Now, you are off to join God and your loved ones in heaven. You will never be forgotten.

I consider myself very blessed to have had you and your family in my life. You were always kind, accommodating, pleasant, and warm. Thank you for being a dear childhood friend to my Mother Ethelyn. You embraced your friendship from the moment that you met her and treated her and my family as members of your own family. You always had a lot of love to share. You had not only great beauty inside and out but amazing strength that came from our Father God above. Thank you for being a wonderful and lovely person. As a faithful and loyal servant to God, May your soul rest in peace with our Father. I will always take comfort in the wonderful memories that we shared over the years. Job well done! Love you much! ❤️
