Obituary:

Jannie B. Johnson Mitchell, 84, of Orlando, entered her eternal rest on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Jannie was born on January 4, 1939 in Hawthorne, FL to the late Timothy and Nettie F. Johnson.

Jannie attended Hawthorne, Florida School system thru 12th grade. She completed high school and continued her education and graduated from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida. While at FAMU she was inducted into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1956 thru Beta Alpha Chapter. After graduating from FAMU, she was a school teacher in Bartow, Florida. Jannie married James Q Mitchell on May 6, 1961. She obtained a position at the Martin Marietta Corporation as a Secretary. She was further promoted into the Contracts Department at Lockheed Marietta Corporation and after 30 plus years of employment she retired.

She loved the Lord and was a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Jannie was very active in the Church. She loved teaching the little children in Sunday school and you would see her with one child on her hip and another holding her hand. Jannie loved shopping with her daughter, Cathi on Saturdays. She would always drive to Hawthorne, Florida to see her parents and take them out to lunch at Morrison’s in Gainesville, Florida. She loved giving community service with her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Jannie served as Basileus of Delta Omicron Omega Chapter and is a member of Psi Theta Omega Chapter. She carried out numerous activities and community services.

Sister Jannie Johnson Mitchell leaves no mourners for she lived a rich Christian life among loving and devoted family and friends, regardless of race, creed or color, just loved by all. She is survived by a loving and devoted husband, James Q Mitchell; daughter, Cathi Q Mitchell-Patterson (Gary Patterson); granddaughter and grandson, Candyce Patterson, DeMica Harrington (Carol), Orlando, FL; sisters, Mrs. Winifred Davis, Queens Village, NY and Mrs. Inez Wiggs, Carson, CA; sister-in-law, Mrs. Carla Mitchell, Eusotis, FL; nephews and nieces, Larry Wiggs (Kathy), Los Angeles, CA, Carol Hudgins (Carlos), Hanford, CA, Timothy P Johnson, Hawthorne, FL, Monica Garrison (Otis), Orlando, FL, Diane Woods (Jerry), Tallahassee, FL, Katherine McCormic, Delray, FL, Monika Abrahawciz (Harry), Berlin, Germany, Reginald Johnson (Vickie), Perry Johnson (Libby), Gainesville, FL, Kelvin Johnson, Hawthorne, FL, Tommy Davis, Barbara Davis (Ollie), Cynthia Davis, Bobby Davis, Queens Village, NY. She will live on in the hearts and minds of her family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Institutional Church, 535 W. Washington Street, Orlando with Pastor Charles Williams, Jr., Officiating. Interment: Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando.
