Obituary:
Ida C. Rolle, 81, of Leesburg, transitioned from labor to reward on Friday, January 1, 2021. Ida, affectionately known as “Skate” by her family and friends, was born on November 12, 1939 in Leesburg to the late Leona Jones and Angus Collins.
Ida graduated from Leesburg High School and attended one year at lake Sumter Community College, pursing a degree in Business. Ida was a very intelligent and ambitious lady and was always up for a challenge. She certainly met many challenges as being the first black cashier in Lake County; but she was able to overcome and broke the barriers which led to doors being open for other black women and men in that industry.
Ida had a thirty year long career with the Lake County School System, working in various schools as an Administrative Secretary. She really enjoyed working with the principles and teachers, but especially the children throughout the years. She was known as the “disciplinarian” at times when some of the kids needed a little guidance; she always had a way with children. The students enjoyed her and she really enjoyed them; there were always stories to be heard. She received many awards for her hard work and devotion to Lake County School System.
Ida was a long time devoted member of St. Stephen AME Church and worked diligently in every way that she could. She was the Church Announcer and a steward for many years (Steward Emeritus). She was also a choir member for many years. She took every responsibility to heart and did her best; she was a special lady.
Ida was a loving and generous matriarch. She loved people and loved to laugh and tell funny stories. She lived her life with great zest and she will deeply missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memories five children: Shaun (Shawn) Wethington, Ricky (Stephanie) Allen, Kevin Allen, Donald (Darlene) Rolle, Jr., Terrence (Alechia) Rolle; 1 sister, Rosa Lee Chatman; 5 grandchildren, 5great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
A walk through visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021, from 5-7PM at St. Stephen AME Church, 302 Church Street, Leesburg. A service of Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021, 12:00 Noon at Morrison United Methodist Church, 1005 W. Main Street, Leesburg with Pastor Woodrow Leeks, II, officiating. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Leesburg, FL.

We are truly and deeply sad at the passing of my neighbor and friend, a person of immense intelligence and beautiful spirit. A Dedicated Mom and humble servant of the most High. Thank God for her children and May they’ Blessed all the days of their lives for I have bear witness the children during the most difficult task with love and dedication of taking care of their Mom the light of lives The Who bear the fruit and blessings of children. Thank You my Dear and Wonderful Friend it’s been an awesome honor and joy to call you neighbor.
I was truly sadden by the news of Sis. Rolle’s passing. She was very much a part of my childhood and “it takes a village” experience. I am forever grateful for the lessons she provided to the girls of our church, St. Stephens AMEC, and our Carver Heights neighborhood. We hope that we make her, and the others that walked this road before her, proud! The prayers of the Lemon/Webb family are with each of you! To God be all Glory!
Ms. Ida Rolle was a dear friend to my mother, Ms. Charlie Mae Coleman, in the physical world. Their friendship is now united in the spiritual world. From earth to heaven is the most excellent promotion to humankind. Ms. Ida will be missed by many but to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We pray God’s peace, comfort, and joy will overcome all grief. Keep the faith, for God, is a near and ever-present help. We love you from Ralph and Edna Coleman.
