Obituary:
Hazel Simms, 81, of Orlando, FL departed this life on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Hazel, affectionately known as “Nelly”, was born on December 28, 1939 in St. Ann, Jamaica, WI to the late Nathaniel Brown and Adina Brown. Two siblings, Edwin Johnson and Hyacinth Brown, preceded her in death.
Hazel was educated in the public schools of Jamaica, West Indies. She later moved to Birmingham, England, United Kingdom, where she married Melbourne Simms and began her career as a nurse. She worked as a nurse in England for many years and was later recruited by Jewish Memorial Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts where she continued her nursing career. Later in life, she moved to Orlando, Florida and trained to become a Medical Assistant. She worked as a Medical Assistant until her retirement.
Hazel was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, relative and a friend to many. She imparted love and kindness to all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her love and memories to her devoted husband; Melbourne; devoted daughter, Jean Davis (Jerome); stepdaughter, Angela Samuels; two step grandchildren, Adam-Wayne Samuels and Elizabeth Samuels; sister, Joycelyn Jobson; three sisters-in-law, Hermine Campbell, Amy Gardner, Tasmine McLaren; four brothers-in-law, Hubert Simms, Matthew Simms, Granville Simms, Naaman Simms; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 4-6 PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, 11:00 AM at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando. Interment: Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando.
