Obituary:

Evelyn May Brooks, 94, of Orlando, departed this life on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Evelyn May was born on the beautiful Island of Jamaica, in the Parish of Saint Ann on September 27, 1925 to Doris Walker-Robinson and George Grant. Evelyn was the first of six children. As a child, Evelyn moved to Labrynth, St. Mary to live with her aunt Henrietta Boyd while her mother worked in Kingston. Evelyn’s early years of singing started in the church. Evelyn received her education at Labrynth All Age School, St. Mary and Kingston Technical School.

While living in Kingston, Evelyn met and married the love of her life, Luis A. Brooks in December of 1946. They were blessed with six beautiful children. After she and her husband migrated to Colon, Panama, she became a member of the Third Street SDA Church. She was very active as a Deaconess, choir member, Sabbath School and Dorcas Society (Community service) member.

Evelyn worked as a certified Nurses Aide at Beth Abraham Nursing Home in the Bronx until she retired. In 1981, she and her family relocated to Orlando and joined Pine Hills SDA Church. She became immediately active in the Sanctuary Choir, a Deaconess, VBS/ Children’s Ministry, community service worker, and a member of the prayer team.

Evelyn had a beautiful sense of humor. She love to sing and tell Nancy Stories which we enjoyed very much. She was alot of fun, excellent cook and a very good swimmer. Evelyn loved life, her family and God. She leaves to cherish and celebrate her legacy: children, Millicent Sudlow, Adelle (Lloyd) Brown, Evita Appleby, Sharon Brooks; siblings, Dorothy Crawford, Joyce Crawford, Jennifer (John) Harris; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 15, 2020 from 11:00AM until the drive-in funeral service begin at 12:00 Noon, Patmos Chapel SDA Church, 110 Athletes Row, Apopka with Pastor Samuel Dade, officiating. Interment: Highland Memorial Gardens, Apopka, FL.

My big sister Ms. Evelyn May Brooks will be deeply missed. She has been a phenomenal role model to her sisters and deceased brothers. Horace, Uton and Neville. I shall whisper I love you sister in her ears virtually on the day she is laid to rest. May you continue to watch and pray over us at your new home in the sky. Love always Jennifer, Joyce and Dorothy. Xoxo

Aunty Evelyn you were love, you showed that to all in your communication and your teachings of Christ. I will never forget your speeches one in particular you ended it by saying ” When in Rome you do what the Roman’s do” because my sisters and I were visiting you and it was your start of Sabbath. You will be deeply missed by all , please know you have touched so many lives here on Earth and you will never be forgotten. Has you fly high in heaven, please be my guardian Angel and watch over my family.
Rest in heavenly peace, untill we meet again!

    Love Karen, Monique, Malcolm, Aleisha.
