Obituary:
Elder Leonie Chandersingh, 61, of Orlando, departed this life on Thursday, September 25, 2021. Leonie Merice (Sandra) Chandersingh, affectionately known as “Ms. C.”/Rev Lee, was born on January 5, 1960 to the late Egbert Oron Chandersingh and Gertrude Elsada Anderson Chandersingh, in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I.
The family migrated to the United States in 1968. Her early years of school were in Stamford, CT. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1978 at the top of her class. She went on to higher academia and earned a Business degree from Stone School of Business, Newhaven, CT, graduating again at the top of her class. She received her Master Degree from Strayer University. Her degrees and outstanding resume catapulted her into the corporate arena immediately upon graduation. In September of 1983, Leonie gave birth to fraternal twins, Jamaal and Jessica. It was in the early 1990’s when she made the decision to move to Florida still working in corporate America until she segued into education. Her accomplishments were numerous. She held degrees in Business, Education and Theology.
Sanny/ or San, as she was known to family, was a remarkable person. She was a consummate student of life. She sought pleasure in giving of herself to her family and all those whom she encountered along the path of life. God gifted her with a magnanimous calling, which we believe she delved into with all her heart. She matriculated through Crossland Bible School, as a woman of clergy she wore many hats. Although she received many accolades academically, her love and tenacity for adding value to others far surpassed any accomplishments or awards that she received. Family for her meant, Forget About Me, I Love You! She was selfless, passionate, resolute and most importantly she loved the Lord. She was a woman of great distinction, which she displayed consistently.
Her passion for ministry placed her before great men and women of God throughout the Central Florida Region and beyond. She was an absolute and skillful teacher of the Word of God and met and formed lasting relationships with other Ministers of the Gospel along the way. She was a devout prayer warrior and played an intricate leadership role at several Ministries. In the year 2000, she pledged her membership to the Center of Faith Church, now known as Greater Faith World Center, located in Apopka, Florida, under the leadership of Pastors James and Alice Hicks. Elder Lee served diligently and consistently. She hosted women’s services, conducted bible studies, ministered across the pulpit, taught Sunday School, and various other task. Whatever needed to be done she would work at it whole hardily, because she knew it was for the Lord! She was an Ordained Elder, and she served in that position until her passing.
She was a firm believer that knowledge is power and was an avid reader. When the rest of her siblings wanted to play outside, she wanted to go to the library. It was her love for academia that carved her path into the school system in the early 2000’s.
In 2006, Leonie began her employment at Oak Ridge High School and held many positions serving the students and community for over 15 years. She held positions as a Business Education Teacher, Edgenuity Lab Manager, 21st CCLC Program Director, Head Bowling Coach- where she coached the team to win a District Championship in the 2018-2019 season, Keeping It Classy Sisterhood Program Mentor (K.I.C.S), Angel Tree Event Assistant, Food Pantry Overseer, chosen Oak Ridge High School Support Person of the Year 2018-2019, SAT/ACT Test Administrator and her most recent position as a Parent Liaison Coordinator. She was a mentor, mother figure, spiritual adviser, and safe haven for not only the students but also for many of the faculty and staff. Ms. “C”. Was well respected by all that knew her- colleagues, students, and community members. Her Pioneer Family will miss her greatly.
All who had the pleasure to be in her presence, we believe, left with an illumination that will be evident for the remainder of their lives. The word that comes to mind is ineradicable or permanent. The illumination from the torch she carried must be and will be passed on from generation to generation. We must now pick up that torch and carry on.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessica L. Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; one grandchild, Jadon Williams of Massachusetts; her three sisters, M. Sharon Nelson, Karen G. Chandersingh, and Rosemarie Crosley, all residing in Fl; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous close family friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM, Orlando West Ministries, 3005 N. Powers Drive, Orlando with Elder James Hicks, officiating. Interment: Orlando Memorial Gardens, Apopka.

Ms. Chandersingh, you were the most positive person I know. You told me a 2 months back that the only way you’ll get ahead is if you work hard for it. I will never forget that and I will never forget the memories we had at Oak Ridge High. If it wasn’t for you and Mrs. Watson having the dedication and deepest love for students, I would have never been one of those students to graduate high school and I thank god for you. May you rest in peace and I’ll see you in the morning. I love you!
