Obituary:

Edmund Young, 88, of Orlando, departed this life on Monday, November 28, 2022. Edmund was born February 13, 1934, in Questelles, St. Vincent to Rosalie and Henry Young.

Edmund was one of twelve children. He left home at an early age and moved to Trinidad, West Indies. He lived in Trinidad for several years where he worked as a carpenter. He joined the Fishing Industries as he traveled from country to country catching fish and shrimp. After having enough of the sea, he decided to move to America.

In 1968 he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he lived with his oldest brother Peter Young. A few years later, he met and married his wife, Elvina. While in Brooklyn, he worked in several locations for the Carpenter’s Union. After sometime, he was transferred to North Carolina and traveled back and forth to New York on weekends. He later purchased a home in Florida. The union between Edmund and Elvina produced four children, two girls and two boys. He was a loving husband and father. He always strived to provide for his family.

Having moved to Florida, he found pleasure in growing tropical fruits and vegetables. Some of his favorite fruits included mangoes, avocados, oranges, grapefruits, guava etc. He would spend days working in his garden sorting different crops and planting different types of bush to make natural medicine.

Edmund was loved by everyone, especially his neighbors, who adored him. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was always willing to give you the best fish story that you ever heard. He would look up to the sky and tell you there are Tunas going to the shore along with Big Jacks and Robins. He also knew who caught what, where and when in St. Vincent.

Edmund leaves behind his wife Elvina Young of 52 years. One daughter; Vanessa Young, Orlando, Fl, three sons; Dwayne Young, Orlando, Fl, Vaughan Young, Pennsylvania and Douglas Thomas, Davenport, Florida. Eight grandchildren, one great granddaughter. Three sisters; Edith Young, Missouri City, Texas, Linda Rush (Osmond) Hampton, Virginia, Sylvia Stewart (Bernard) Ontario, Canada; three brothers; Levi Young (Lynda) Brooklyn, NY, Isaac Young (Uline) Lawrenceville, Georgia, James Young, Queens, NY and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

A service of celebration will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, 12:00 Noon at Postell’s Mortuary Chapel, Orlando with Rev. Dr. Dennis Young, officiating.
