Obituary:
Drena Lue Taylor, 93, of Orlando, affectionately known as Mother Taylor/Ma/Aunt Dink/DT/Granny/Great-Granny, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2026.
Born on May 13, 1932 to Marie and Samuel Taylor, Sr., she dedicated her life to Christ at a young age, serving as a beacon of light and wisdom to many. She was the heart of our family, the quiet strength behind every gathering, and the kind of woman whose love made everyone feel like they belonged. She was a treasure of historical facts and cherished memories.
As a long-standing member of the Greater St. Paul AME Church, Mother Taylor was a cornerstone of the ministry, serving in Mother’s Board, Usher Board. She remain diligent and dedicated to the work of the church until she was no longer physically able to yet heart remain committed to attending with the help of her faithful niece, Missionary Eddie Davis who attended to her delicate needs.
Blessed with the gift of compassion and the ministry of helps, Drena used her God-given talents in the marketplace through her careers. She was employed at the Central Florida Blood Bank for a number of years before completing decades-long tenure at Park Lake Childcare Center as one of their leading care providers.
She taught us not only how to care for others, but how to show up—with patience, humor, and grace. She celebrated our victories, steadied us through our struggles, and gave advice that stayed with you long after it was given. Although she was firm in her stance, her love was unconditional, her wisdom hard-earned, and her presence unforgettable.
Though her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, her legacy lives on in the values she passed down and the love she gave so freely. She leaves to cherish: sons: Edmund (Barbara) Taylor- Syracuse, NY, Ronald Grimes, and Michael Taylor-both of Orlando, Fl; grandchildren: Anita Brinson, Vivaloria Brinson, David Brinson, Katie Brinson, Dedric (Homer) Lumpkin, Anginetta Taylor, Cedric Taylor, Tamika (Steven) Lawson, Ronald Grimes, Jr., Jonathan Grimes, Katrina Grimes, Tashawnda Grimes, Christopher Grimes, Nathan Grimes, Sherrod (Tonastacia “Stacie”), and Brittani Taylor. Bonus Children and Grandchildren: Christopher (Maureen) Brockman and their children Shannon, Christopher Jr., Daniel, Benjamin, and their children; and a hostof other relatives, great grandchildren and many friends. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished. To know her was a gift. To love her was an honor.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 5-7PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, 1:00 PM at Greater St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1040 S. Parramore Avenue, Orlando, with Pastor Marvin Andrews, officiating. Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.
