Obituary:

Berlean Davis, affectionately known as “Auntie Berl”, went Home to be with our Lord, Thursday evening the 20th of May 2021 at the age of 86. Berlean (Richmond) was born on May 16, 1935 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to parents Olivia and Jacob Richmond.

In 1948 Berlean migrated to Chicago, IL where she lived with her aunt Vernilla Bowers. Two years later at the ripe old age of 16 she fell in love with Robert Lee Davis. They were together until he went off to serve his country in the U.S Air Force. Upon his return 4yrs later after winning her affections again they married and raised six beautiful children: Keith, Rosalyn, Rhonda, Rochelle, Robert, and Regina. The stress of Robert’s work for the Chicago Police Dept. made it necessary for the family to move to Crestwood, IL. It was from there that Berlean began to really define herself as her own person.

Although she had only a 6th grade education, in 1973 Berlean tested and trained to work for the state of Illinois at the Elizabeth Luderman Center for the mentally challenged. As a mental health technician, Berlean served for 14 yrs. before moving on to greater assignments. Throughout her career Berlean worked at R.H. Donnelley corp., Michigan Juvenile detention center as a chief, and as a certified nursing assistant. Nothing could stop her from providing for her family and giving her finances to such organizations as UNICEF, Feed the Children, and local church assemblies. Berlean’s love for the Lord and devotion to her extended family would not allow her to ever let a man, woman, or child go hungry in her presence.

For Berlean her love For you always began with a good hot meal. She could cook her way into anyone’s heart.
One of Berlean’s favorite sayings was “Use Your Common Sense” and to that end “Auntie Momma, Berl” mothered many across the United States. The lessons she has taught us will circle the Globe as we take her wisdom everywhere we go. Thank you, Mom just isn’t enough. We are glad you taught us. Now, we will put our love of God in action as you showed us with your life.

She leaves to cherish her love and memories 2 sons, Keith (Texana) Richmond, Robert Davis; 4 daughters Rosalyn (Robert) Cook, Rhonda Davis, Rochelle Davis, Regina (Frank) Smith; sisters Ernestine Vaughn, Claudette Witherspoon; brothers Claude (Kathy) Shaw Jr., Charles S. Shaw; 25 Grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren, a host of great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 4-6PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, 10:00 AM at New Life Evangelistic Center of Orlando, 432 N. Kirkman Road, Orlando with Pastor Regina Smith, officiating. Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Clermont, FL.
