Obituary:

Aldrich Morgan Little, Jr., 81, of Kissimmee, FL departed this life on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Morgan, as he was affectionately called, was born in Cheswold, Delaware on September 5,1938 to Aldrich Morgan Little, Sr. and Pearl Hackett. Most of his childhood years were spent in the Dover, Delaware area. Morgan loved sports. He went from playing football, basketball and baseball on the neighborhood playground, to being a standout athlete at William Henry High School, to playing football and baseball at Delaware State College. His athletic accomplishments led him to being inducted into the Delaware State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Delaware Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Morgan received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Delaware State College in 1961, then his Elementary Education Certification in 1962. He went on to become a Peace Corps Volunteer in India from 1962-1964. He was the first African American from Delaware to enlist in the Peace Corps. Following his service in the Peace Corps, Morgan began his education career teaching in Cleveland, Ohio where he met his wife, Jane. Shortly after marrying they moved to Schenectady, New York. Morgan served at a counselor at the State University of Albany, NY where he completed his master’s degree in Counseling and Student Personnel. He later became a teacher and administrator in the Schenectady City School District. Morgan moved back to Dover in 1990 to continue his work in the field of education. Health challenges forced him to retire in 1998.

Morgan has been an active part of whatever community he lived in. In Cleveland, the Glenville Development Corporation, in Schenectady, the Hamilton Hill Art Center, as well as his churches, Friendship Baptist Church, Schenectady, and Mt. Zion AME Church in Dover. He has been a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. since 1961.

He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Jane; their son, John of Hollywood, FL daughter-in-law, Cynthia; grandsons, Grant Little, Hollywood, FL, Dominique Harmon, Dover, DE; granddaughter, Morgan Harmon, Orlando, FL and son-in-law, Neal Harmon, Dover, DE; brothers, Howard Little, sister-in-law, Nancy, Harold Little, and Charles Little; a host of Hackett family members including his special Aunt Alice Wilson; his favorite cousins, Pee Wee Howard and Chuck Little, Pam Gibbs Beckett and Karen Gibbs; as well as nieces and a nephew, Tamikia Jones, Minnie Little, Howard Little, Jr. and Joy Reid are also left to mourn.

Many of Morgan’s closest friends are those that he made during his college days at Delaware State College. The Hornet love and spirit have remained strong. The Travelers Club has allowed the ‘old gang,’ to keep their friendship as strong as it was during those, “Good Ol’ DSC days.” Morgan mentored many young people during his lifetime. His favorite mentee, Lenita Green McIntrye, adopted us as her Dover Parents while a student at DSU. He was proud to have played a part in her success. She has been a part of our family for years. Morgan’s legacy lives on. Morgan loved sports. This is what he said when interviewed before his induction in the Delaware Afro- American Sports Hall of Fame, “Sports build character, motivation and drive….that’s a lot like life.”

A service of memory will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at 1:00 PM, Hartly Firehall, 2898 Arthursville Road, Hartly, DE 19953.
