Obituary:

Stafford Everton Nelson, 76, of Clermont, departed this life on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Stafford was born on July 28,1949, in Freehill of the parish of St. Ann in Jamaica, West Indies, to his parents, Kenneth Nelson and Iris Amanda Gallimore Nelson. He was raised with strong values of independence, resilience, and ingenuity, traits that would define his life.

Stafford was a fiercely independent man who charted his own course, often unconcerned with convention or tradition. He possessed a natural charisma that allowed him to fit into any space and fill it with laughter, conversation, and presence. Wherever Stafford went, he brought life with him.

A man of many ideas and an entrepreneur at heart. Over the years, he launched and operated several ventures, including mechanical services, Nelson & Sons Tire Shop, and lawn care businesses. He learned the value of hard work and creativity from his father, and he passed on that entrepreneurial spirit to his children. Today, his legacy lives on through the many successful businesses and pursuits his children and grandchildren have built in the United States and abroad.

In 1980, he married Joan Hayles and eventually immigrated to the United States. He lived in New York for several years, continuing to do independent mechanic work. Stafford relocated to Florida, where he would spend the remainder of his working years and retirement. He was a hopeful and optimistic man. Even in the face of hardship, illness, or disappointment, he spoke positively and often leaned on scripture to sustain him.

“Never give up” was not just a saying for him; it was a way of life. That mantra continues to live on through his children, Raymond, Stafford Jr (Avery), Courtney, Garth (Nikiesha), and his only daughter, Nathalie (Leon, III); as well as his grandchildren, Jodi Ann, Stafford Il, Alyssa, Tyra, Kashema, Shaniqua, Tara, Aaron, Seth, Caleb, Leon IV, and Sebastian, and great grandson, Krishauwn.

His siblings remember him: Angela, Errol, Lorna, Lewis (Ken); Cliffester (Cliffie); Dolores; Norman; Lolita; Anne Marie; Beverly (also known as Yvette); Valerie (Deceta); and Derrick (Lancelot), along with a wide circle of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 11:00 AM until services begin at 12:00 Noon, Silver Star Christian Center, 7510 Silver Star Road, Orlando.
