Obituary:
Dennis L. Turner, Sr., 64, a long-standing resident of Sanford, Florida, entered eternal rest on January 1, 2026. Affectionately known throughout the community as “Officer Turner,” Dennis was born on January 25, 1961, to James and Kazuko Turner, both of whom preceded him in death.
Dennis began his life-long service to the public in the United States Army in 1983, after which he was honorably discharged in 1988. He then began a career in law enforcement at the Highlands County Sheriff’s Department where he rose to the rank of investigator prior to beginning his career with the Orlando Police Department for 23 years, retiring after a distinguished career marked by dedication, innovation, and professionalism.
He was widely respected for his commitment to excellence, consistently exceeding standards in dependability, leadership, and interpersonal relations. Dennis embraced continuing education and training, constantly striving to strengthen his skills and better serve the public.
Before beginning his law-enforcement career, Dennis attended Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California, graduating with the Class of 1978. He also honorably served as a decorated United States Army veteran, carrying his deep sense of duty and service throughout every chapter of his life.
Dennis was a true lover of people — a man who never met a stranger. He lived with a joyful heart and an ever present smile, always ready with a joke or a story that brought laughter to those around him. His infectious laugh could brighten any room, and his warm spirit touched countless lives. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, the echoes of his laughter and the light of his love will remain in our hearts forever.
Dennis leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Kiara Turner of Lake Mary, Florida; six children: Richard Fremont (Sarah) of Chesterfield, Michigan; Denise Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana; Tami Hinton (James) of DeLand, Florida; Dennis Turner, II of Apopka, Florida; Amy Turner, Renae Turner and Ke’ajhia London,of Lake Mary, Florida; his sister, June (Ivery) of Orlando, Florida; his brother, David Turner of Longwood, Florida; Liana Turner of Rancho Cucamonga, California; ten grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 5-7 PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, 11:00 AM at Majestic Life Church, 821 S. Kirkman Road, Orlando with Dr. Jerry D. Owens, officiating.

Turner, thank you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your experiences and your family with me. You understood the good, the bad, and the indifferent when it comes to a life in law enforcement, yet you never detoured my childhood dream of becoming a cop. I cherish the laughs and stories shared at Edgewater High School, Publix in Rosemont and our ride-alongs. Rest peacefully, Sir. We got it from here.
