Obituary:
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Jean Alix Michaud, affectionately known as “Da” or “Papi” to his children, and “Joe” or “Loulou” to many who loved him. Jean was born on June 25, 1957, in Palma, La Gonaïve, Haiti, and peacefully entered rest on Sunday, November 23, 2025. He was 68 years old.
Jean was the third of nine children born to the late Lebien M. Michaud and Leonie Joseph. Raised in a close-knit Christian community, he grew up surrounded by faith, music, and family. He loved singing and playing guitar, and even as a young man he carried a calm spirit, a warm smile, and a quiet humor that always lifted others. Hardworking by nature, Jean believed deeply in providing for those he loved. He worked long hours throughout his life, never complaining, always giving, and always thinking of ways he could do more for his family. Though he was a man of few words, the words he did speak were often wise, funny, and unforgettable.
Jean received his early education at Wesleyan College in Anse-à-Galets, La Gonaive, and later graduated high school from Collège de Port-au-Prince in Bois Verna, Port-au-Prince. He excelled academically and stayed active through swimming and soccer—his favorite sport, one he continued to enjoy faithfully even after moving to the United States.
In 1988, at the age of 31, Jean immigrated to the U.S. in pursuit of new opportunities and proudly became a U.S. citizen. He attended Evans High School to strengthen his English and worked diligently in a variety of professions throughout his life. He served as a cook in a hotel, a warehouse worker, and spent many years as a business owner taxi driver—his longest and most dedicated role—before retiring. No matter the job, Jean led by example, demonstrating humility, perseverance, and the belief that a man honors his family through hard work and love.
Jean was a devoted family man who poured his heart into his children, his church, and his community. He had a gentle presence, a patient nature, and a sense of humor that made him a joy to be around. To know Da was to know kindness, strength, and quiet generosity. He was truly one of the “cool guys,” and his absence leaves a deep and lasting void. On February 27, 1997, Jean married Mona Annelus, and together they shared 12 years of companionship.
Jean’s love and legacy continue through his children: Chedline Michaud, Jean-Marc Jeannite, Michelle Cherisien, Endreeka Alix Michaud, Joanne Alix Michaud, Berlineda Michaud, and Cliford Michaud. He is also survived by his beloved siblings: Maculeuse Michaud, Mercilien Michaud, Petion Michaud, Etienne Michaud, Eriante Michaud, Edmond Michaud, and Ynose Michaud;
Jean cherished his many nieces and nephews: Lutherking Richelin, Luckens Richelin, Landie Richelin, Carl Herdy Michaud, Leo Arthur Michaud, Patricia Michaud, Daniel Michaud, Fedna St. Louis, Bendy St. Louis, Junior St. Louis, Moaben St. Louis, Elizabeth Grace Michaud, Marc Michaud, Carlth Andre, Davidson Andre, and Jeremy Michaud. Among his greatest joys were his grandchildren, Jaime Clyde Lubin and Elijah Marc Cherisien, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
Jean Alix Michaud lived a life marked by faith, dedication, humility, and love. His memory will forever remain a blessing, and his legacy will continue in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply and forever missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 4 PM- 6 PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, 11:00 AM at First Haitian Baptist Church of Orlando, 4701 Lenox Boulevard, Orlando with Pasteur Edmond Michaud, officiating. Interment: Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando.
