Obituary:
Britnie Shontika James-Brown, 32, departed this life on Friday, January 10, 2025. Britnie was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin and a friend. Britnie, who was affectionately known as Shadea, was born on February 15, 1992, in St. Thomas, Jamaica, to parents Donna Marie Baily-Wynter and the late Cecile Constantine James. Britnie was the second of four children. Britnie started Arcadia basic school at the age of two years old due to her sharp-witted mind. She then attended Arcadia Primary School, and she was always in the top 3 of her grades and worked hard to remain there throughout primary and high school. Britnie’s love for Christ brought her to him at an early age. She was baptized at the age of twelve, and ever since then she has followed faithfully in her walk with the Lord. Britnie moved to St. Catherine at the age of twelve where she finished primary school and attended Old Harbour High School. She later went back to St. Thomas and completed school at Happy Grove High school in Portland Jamaica in 2008. She then attended Stony Hill Academy where she received certifications in accounting and bookkeeping in 2010.
In 2014, Britnie migrated to the U.S where she lived a fulfilling life. She was destined to do great things in life. She had a passion for accounting, so she attended Valencia College in 2016 where she continued her studies of accounting. She later changed her major where she received two certifications in Hospitality. While attending school, she worked many jobs that included AT&T Sales Representative, Universal Line Cook, Called Center Rep, Leasing agent, and Property Manager. She found her passion in event planning, and she later started an LLC business called BJ Décor and Events. Britnie loved decorating and planning events. She was a vibrant spirit; someone whose creativity knew no limits. Whether she was designing, making art, or just simply using her hands to make someone’s dream event become a reality.
Britnie met the love of her life Gawayne Brown in 2017 and they later got married on February 15, 2018. Alex Brown, Gawayne’s child, was raised by her as her own. Their union produced three beautiful girls: Gabryella Brown, Gihanna-Serai Brown and the late Genisys Brown.
As a wife, Britnie, was the heart of her family, sharing a deep bond with her husband. Together they built a life full of love, laughter and growth. As a mother, Britnie’s devotion to her children knew no limits. She cared for them with every ounce of her being, nurturing them with love, guidance, and encouragement. Her children will carry her spirit with them as they continue to grow. She was indeed the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman.
Britnie had a gift with connecting with people. She could light up a room with her smile and had the ability to make anyone feel welcome and valued. Britnie was not just a friend; she was a sister, daughter, confidante and a source of strength for so many of us. Her compassion knew no bounds. She was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear.
Britnie is survived by her loving husband, Gawayne Brown; her children, Alex Brown, Gabryella Brown, and Gihanna-Serai Brown; her mother, Donna Bailey Wynter; stepfather, Fillimore Wynter Sr; siblings, Limore James, Isheia Shoulder, Brianna Wynter, Erin Wynter and Fillimore Wynter Jr; niece, Taniece James; uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, let us also take this moment to reflect on the remarkable impact that Britnie has left on our lives.
