Obituary:

Valegia Lee Childers Postell, 80, of Orlando peacefully passed away and entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 1, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Valegia was born on October 5, 1941 to the late Horace Childers and Ollie Mae Jones Jones Childers in Statesboro, GA. She was a graduate of Drew High School Class of 1960. As a lifelong learner, she dedicated herself to continuous studies and training throughout the years.

She personified grace. When you saw Mother Valegia Postell, you saw Jesus. Her beautiful smile energized any room she entered and instantly opened the door for her to impart her love and wisdom into any situation or circumstance. A natural mother to five adult children and spiritual mother to many others.

A retiree of Howard Phillips Center for Women and Children at Arnold Palmer Hospital, Orlando. She also served as a head teacher and assistant director at Orlando Day Nursery.

Mother Postell was a faithful member of El Bethel Temple of Jesus at Orlando for well over 50 years. As a member, she served on numerous boards and ministries to include the Jail Minister, Prsident of the Seniors’ Choir, and Women of the Word Ministry. Whenever and however she was called to serve, she willingly did so. Mother Postell put God first in all that she did and she made sure her family knew who God was and how good God is. God knew she served her purpose and decided to call her home on April 1st. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Mother Postell was a devoted wife to the late Willie James Postell, Sr. To their union were born five children: Rosalind (Fred) Postell-Harvey; Marcella (Alex) Postell-Williams, Ollie Yvette Postell, Barbara Jean Postell, and Willie (Tara) Postell, Jr.; siblings, Janet Childers, Emmanuel Childers, John Childers; special sister, Diana Mincy; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15, 2022 from 5-7PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022, 11:00 AM at El Bethel Temple of Jesus, 3000 Bruton Boulevard, Orlando with Pastor David Thomas, Sr., officiating. Interment: Orlando Memorial Gardens, Apopka.

We are grateful for this true mother in Zion.. We have the assurance that she is with the Lord and are thankful for the everlasting legacy Mother Postell has left in her children, grandchildren and the many lives she touched. Though we don’t sorrow as those who have no hope we cannot help but feel the weight, emptiness and void of such a loss in the earth. May the comforting presence of our Lord be with you in this hour. With love, sincerest prayers and sympathy, Bishop Mable E. Allen and The Rhema COTLG Family

What an amazing example of faith and hope in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. Mother Postell will always be remembered for her joy of the Lord, devotion to His service, and loving heart. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn with the family of our Elders Rosalind Postell-Harvey, and Fred Harvey Jr. during this time of grief. But we don’t mourn as those who have no hope. Mother is rejoicing with the Lord. Hallelujah! Your Living Word Church family, Lexington, KY

Mother Valegia blessed my life. As I started my journey in community ministry, through Women With a Call, International, she joined us in meetings at El Bethel, undergirded us in prayer, and provided an example of Godly wisdom and womanhood. A few years ago as I completed my doctoral studies, Mother Postell joined a Focus Group that I conducted at El Bethel and shared again of her wisdom in response to questions about the emotional and spiritual responses of Church members when they are faced with transition. The result of my study said that it is healthy to go through a variety of emotions, as long as we land in a Spiritual place of sorrowing with hope. I am thankful that although my heart is grieved for our earthly loss, I am so thankful for a life well-lived in and for Christ. She is among the blessed who “die in the Lord”. Herein says the Spirit, “She rests from her labors and her works do follow her.”
