JGREENE

Obituary:

Jules Vergne Greene, 81, of Windermere, Florida departed this life on Thursday, April 2, 2020. Jules was born on January 13, 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Vergne and Georgette Greene. Jules was baptized at an early age. He was educated in the Jersey City school system and during his teenage years he discovered his love for music. Over the years he learned to play the saxophone, keyboard, drums, and guitar. He also enjoyed playing with local bands and never shied away at the opportunity to perform. After high school he attended Rutgers University where he earned a Bachelor of Science and later earned a Master of Arts from Montclair State University.

Jules served in the U.S. Army Dental Corp during the Vietnam War. When he returned home from the war he was introduced to the love of his life Barbara Holmes. They married in 1969 and were together until Jules’ passing. They lived and worked in Montclair, NJ and Jules retired as a District Parole Supervisor for the State of New Jersey. After retirement they moved to Windermere, Florida where they continued to enjoy their life together.

In addition to music, Jules loved adventures. He and Barbara traveled the world together. Whether it was going to the Poconos or Fiji they were always sure to have a good time and make new friends. Jules enjoyed volunteering with the Orange County School System as a surrogate parent for underprivileged children. As a volunteer he would advocate for the needs of children who did not have a parent to attend Parent/Teacher Conferences and other meetings.

Jules was always the life of the party. If there was a dance floor you could expect him to be the first and last person on the floor. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and often traveled in large groups on his various trips. He was an excellent cook and was known for his fish fry and chicken surprise. Jules had an awesome sense of humor, if you talked to him for five minutes you were guaranteed a laugh. Jules was preceded in death by his parents Vergne Greene and Georgette Black, and son-in-law, Presiding Elder Albert D. Tyson, III.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mrs. Barbara H. Greene, daughter Robin H. Tyson, grandchildren Albert IV and Annjeanette Marie, great grandchildren Albert V, Aria Chanel, and Declan Jules, sisters Carol Stenson and Joy Stanton, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.

At this time prayers are extremely welcome. The family will plan a memorial service to honor Jules at a later date.

Jules eagerly consented to serve as a surrogate parent for OCPS when I asked and appointed him years ago.. He was very compassionate in IEP Team meetings and often went beyond the call for our students. He was kind, effective and professional in every way. I. admired his love for life and for his wife, Barbara. They were rarely apart.
I thank him on behalf of the students with disabilities in Orange County. A great man has left a void. Peace and blessings to the family.

Jules and his wife Barbara became surrogate parent volunteers for OCPS and served as advocates for special needs children for well over 10 years. As one of the facilitators of this program, I can always count on Jules to accept a child into his caseload.

Mrs. Greene, I remember the first time I met your Jules. He made me feel so welcome and comfortable right away. Jules had a very peaceful way about him, which came across in his gentle voice. I cannot fully express the sorrow I feel for you at this time. I am thinking about you always and I am just a call away. God Bless and may he rest in peace.
