Obituary

Tommie Lee Reese, 84, a lifelong resident of Leesburg, Florida, transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Life’s journey for Mrs. Tommie Lee Reese began on January 15, 1933 in Leesburg, Florida. She was the only child born to Ms. Leola Henderson and Mr. Thomas Reeves. Tommie attended Lake County Training School and Johnson Junior College, earning a certificate in Cosmetology.

On June 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Curtis Reese. To this union four children were born: two daughters and two sons. Tommie began her career doing domestic work for families in the Leesburg area. She later changed her career and began working as a cook in several area restaurants to help support her family. Her cooking talents soon took off, and she began to have a following. She was often asked to prepare meals for special events and occasions. She truly enjoyed preparing tasty dishes.

Tommie joined St. Stephen A. M. E. Church at a very early age. She took great pride and joy in playing the piano for the senior choir for a time. In later years, she had the pleasure of being a part of the Season Saints group at St. Stephen. Tommie was also a member of Sisters Alive, later known as Sisters Caring and Sharing. Tommie Lee was a committed member of St. Stephen. She loved God, and she demonstrated thy by being faith in her service to the church. She was regular in her church attendance, as long as her health permitted, and she gave her tithes and offerings cheerfully. Tommie Lee supported all church functions. Tommie Lee loved God, and she loved the servants of God. Every pastor that came to St. Stephen has found a faithful supporter in her. Tommie Lee was not a big talker, but her works spoke loudly for her. Providing meals for individuals and volunteering to prepare food for church activities demonstrated her Christian service.

She was a very loving and devoted mother; and she was loved by all who knew her. She loved her church and remained a loyal and faithful member until God called her home.

She is survived by two daughters: Cynthia McIntyre (Veryl), Panama City, Florida, Linda Leeks (Deacon Wilbert), Fruitland Park, Florida; two sons: Wayne Reese (Marva), Leesburg, Florida, Eric Reese (Stephanie), Adamsville, Florida; four grandchildren: Wayne Curtis Reese, Jr., Kendra Reese, Cord Reese, all of Leesburg, Florida, Erica Reese, Ocala, Florida; Quienneshia Pinkard, Fayetteville, North Carolina; one grandson preceded her in death – Veryl Dermone McIntyre; five great-grandchildren; three loving cousins raised as siblings: Therea Tyndell, Newark, New Jersey, Steve Patterson, Orlando, Florida and Ronnie Page, Jacksonville, Florida; devoted cousins: Mozella Allen, Hazel Rimes, Leesburg, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5-7PM at the church. A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, 11:00 AM at St. Stephen African Methodist Episcopal Church, 302 Church Street, Leesburg with Pastor David L. Connelly, Eulogist. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Leesburg.

Cynthia, our souls were painfully stirred when we learned of your mother's death, but then we became encouraged because, like you, we understood that she was a born again believer, and according to the Bible that secured her eternal salvation. We hope that you are pleased with God's calling work, and will now be the example of strength for the rest of your family. It is with deep regret that we'll not be able to attend the homegoing services but, we will continue to pray for your strength in God while we are away with family ourselves trying to do His will. Be sure to keep the Word of the Lord as your guide for necessary power. We love you!!
