|Reverend John Rosevelt Hickman, 86, of Orlando, FL, transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. John was born in Camden, SC on January 5, 1931 to the late Joseph and Alean Hickman. John was the oldest of nine siblings and reared in a Christian home. At an early age, John accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was filled with the Holy Ghost while a member of the St. John Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Brooklyn, NY. John became an ordained minister and preached the Word of God throughout the Borough. Additionally, John was a gifted singer, musician, and choir director. John formed various singing groups, and played the organ and piano for numerous churches throughout New York City. John was educated in the New York City public school system and continued his education at Manhattan Bible Institute to study the word of God.
John worked for the New York City Housing Authority for many years and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his coworkers. He was a very friendly person and would leave a lasting impression on people wherever he went. He loved to travel, eat out, and often dressed with matching colors. Additionally, John like to drive big cars such as Cadillac's, Electric 225 and Oldsmobile.
In 2014, John relocated to Orlando, Florida. John became a proud member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and spoke highly of his church and Pastor Dr. Larry Mills. He was a loving father, husband, and brother who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Reverend Hickman is survived by his loving wife, Mary Hickman; daughter, Chynita E. Hickman; sons, John F. Hickman; four sisters; one brother; in laws; grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 4-7PM at the mortuary. A service of celebration will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, 11:00 AM at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Orlando with Pastor Larry Mills, Officiating. Interment: Washington Park Cemetery, Orlando.
